Just a small RSPB centre with a handful of hides on the south bank of the R Ouse before it empties into the Humber. A quiet haven for Heron, Egret, Lapwing in abundance on our visit. Also extremely lucky to catch glimpse of Marsh Harrier. Friendly and helpful staff member enthusiastically imparting sightings and best hide to visit. Basic tea/coffee... More

Located about 15 minutes drive east of Goole, this well signposted reserve is one of the RSPB's finest anywhere, and their flagship reserve in central East England. It's a little out of the way but that's in its favour as it doesn't get crowded. It's a lovely sized reserve with six hides and usually very good for migrating waders in... More

We visited this RSPB reserve after a few hours of heavy rain. There was a convenient car park with picnic tables, toilets, small reception/visitor centre with onsite warden, lots of benches and viewing hides with information boards. We saw snipe, lapwings, an active reed warbler and a quick glimpse of a bearded tit as well as lots of tree and... More

My wife and I are very amateur bird watchers with little knowledge of the subject but a keen and growing interest. So, It was good to talk to staff at the reserve as well as fellow observers. Lots of information about the birds, what had been spotted that day, what we could hope to see and which hides were the... More

We are members of the RSPB and enjoyed free use of the facilities. Although we live close by we hadn't been before and loved the clean, easy access car park. Great signage and good hides. Being our first visit we were a little worried about looking like learners (all the gear, but no idea!) but we were welcomed. Loved the... More

Well signed from Goole and an interesting drive across the surrounding fens. Small reception area / hide with a friendly warden / volunteer to give you information on the Sunday I visited. A number of hides available within easy walk of the car park. A number of species were readily visible on my visit, and there is always the chance... More

This was a very nice site. As a previous reviewer said, there were plenty of brown RSPB signs on the way from Goole. Good parking on site, some under shade. Toilets on way to reception area - but note water is not suitable for drinking. Very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable staff member or volunteer on hand to provide overview of... More

Take care when using the post code to find this reserve as my sat-nav left me about a mile away. Thankfully the RSPB brown road signs are well positioned and I go there ok. The car parking is adequate and has decent loos on the path to the reception hide. I noticed this was another site where people avoided the... More

I try and take my grand-daughter once each holiday for an hour or so. On this occasion we were lucky enough to see the long-eared owl. When I have visited I have found the staff and also the visitors very friendly and helpful, willing to share not only knowledge but binoculars as well. There is a very good variety of... More

Excellent day out for serious bird watchers or folks who just like birds . Highlight of the day was a long eared owl , who sat within 15 feet of the path . It's a well planned centre with plenty of hides within a short walking area . Marsh harriers ( in plenty)can be watched in comfort and warmth from... More
