The staff at Carisbrook Castle reception need to visit Mottistone to see how they warmly welcome their visitors. The Castle itself is a marvelous pile to explore after seeing the intro. video. The tea rooms are poorly sited in a tucked away yard.

We arrived late in the day and had the place almost to ourselves. We walked the walls which give magnificent views over the area as well as showing a well preservedexample of a mott and baily castle.

All the excitement and charm of an historic castle, some great history and a chance to see a donkey powered well. Great for all the family

I have visited the Isle of Wight many times before but by sea not Road and ferry. The consequent preoccupation with tides and weather seems to have suppressed or precluded seeing the great sites. But not anymore as those days have past. As a result...More

The ground level is spectacular but the steps do get a little steep although handrails are also there if that would help.
How much should I allow for exploring the castle?

You could cheerfully spend all day here! There is so much to see and do. BUT; it's weather-dependent. There is at least as much outside as inside, so go on a dry day if you want to appreciate the full experience.

There is only a charge to enter the castle as far as we could tell. All entertainment was included.
