Unless you are interested in a random collection of artefacts, this museum is probably not for you. However, the building, an old prison, is well worth seeing. We went on a Wednesday when all museums were free.

Patently this is meant for locals or visiting Spanish. Not even a brochure in English. It's one way of killing an hour on a wet Wednesday but those with an enquiring mind will come away frustrated at the stupidity of those in authority who should know better; unless of course their minds are that parochial. Disappointing apart from the video... More

The displays are extremely interesting, and one room shows the process of making flax thread. There are also archaeological displays and various other artifacts from the area. It is Spain, so one shouldn't expect everything to be in English, but I truly regretted my absence of Spanish. I would have gotten even more out of my visit.

Thought this was going to be boring however it got better the more we saw. Near tourist office in the old town and we went on a Saturday and it was free. Some religious artifacts and some roman excavations and artifacts displayed here. Also some stone age artifacts and some historical military artifacts including guns and medals. Can't moan if... The Bierzo has its own special character and history and this historic prison is the best place to learn about it. That said it feels '80s in museum style - display cabinets and labels, dressed dummies and military dioramas. The rooms don't seem to connect in a thematic narrative although individual parts are very interesting. It's underwhelming but maybe they haven't... More

The museum is in a renovated historic building of the old city: the old prison. The exhibits tell the tale of the region through the years. Great perspective.
