Mijas is a beautiful unspoilt picturesque mountain village which offers spectacular views towards the sea. It comprises of rustic houses lining narrow roads and passages. There is a wonderful selection of restaurants and local shops. Here is a modern well maintained multi-storey car park (1 euro for the day), centrally located with a lift that opens directly opposite the main piazza and next to the tourist information office.

Beautiful place - Bullring is superb - dead cheap to get in €3 and gives you a real sense of what the events were like . Fabulous setting and stunning views of the coast and the mountains. Parking in the multi story dead easy and dirt cheap !

The plaza is gorgeous with the bull arena which you can visit for E3, the church next to it, colourful garden with fountain and a cliff with the next view ion Mijas. My favourite place while we were at the village. The bull arena brought us back in the past with information about the shows, the costumes and a small gift shop.

Paid our 3 euros each for entry to the typically unfriendly girl in the shop. Pretty basic tour then after 20mins and taking some photos we were accused of not paying. Demanded to see tickets which we produced. Then accused of them being for an earlier day!! As if anyone would want to go twice? Girl then ranting in Spanish and snatched our tickets. I think a career change might be a good idea for her??

This plaza de toros is the smallest in Spain. It has a unique oval shape. The small museum has plaques showcasing the matadors who have fought there.

The bill ring in Mijas is really old and sits on top of a hill near the Center of the town. Well worth a look - recommended.

Couldn't find the 'casco historico de Mijas' on Trip Advisor....just the Plaza de Toros which surprised me as although it is quaint it is not the best of Mijas. The absolute 'best' is to wander around all the old streets and small squares which are outstandingly beautiful and authentic....this is not a show village, this is a living village. The best is to take your time and just go down every inviting little staircase or alley you see ...you will be charmed. Also not to forget the walk around the old castle walls with stunning views of the coast. Many of the shops and restaurants are in old houses so this is special too. A wonderful Museum in the centre shows how life used to be and the CAC Picasso museum has many of his ceramics.

My wife and I walked up to the old church above Mijas when a man passed us and we got hit by birdshit! The man gave us some tissues and helped wipe the muck off our backs but we later found out he stole the money from my wallet. A short man in a baseball cap.

Once you've found small but beautiful Plaza de Toros, you're in the centre of Mijas' tourist area. Everything branches off from here. Straight up hill (left of attractive restaurant) to Bullring, Fortification and park, Parque La Muralla, Miguel González Berral, Church de la Inmaculada Concepción and fantastic views....or left under arch next to Myan Monkey Ice cream (recommended) for wonderful restaurants and more fantastic views. Don't miss this on your visit to Mijas.

how do i get there from torrmalinos
Written 22 July 2016
Hello Graeme ,The M112 & 121 bus will get you to Mijas from Torremolinos . They are pretty regular but I can't remember how often - 3 or 4 an hour at a guess .
It's approximately 1 hours interesting journey at only €1.65 cents each. I highly recommend Mijas - it was one of the highlights of our stay .
