About
Fado in Chiado is a live Fado show – an excellent way to discover culture and the city.Fado is Portuguese and was born in Lisbon. It was adopted by Portuguese culture and is now a symbol of Portugal, with a strong tradition in the historic districts of Lisbon.The hour-long Fado in Chiado show features talented artists – a singer and two musicians (Portuguese guitar and classical guitar) – performing Fado and the music that makes it the national song. The live performances are accompanied by images of unique must-visit locations in Lisbon. It is said that Fado combines nostalgia (saudade), Portuguese pride, hope and conformism in a musical style epitomised by Amália Rodrigues. On account of these unique characteristics, Fado has now been declared part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.Fado in Chiado takes place daily* in the very centre of Lisbon. The hour-long show is the ideal suggestion for seeing live Fado and then taking advantage of the night to discover more of the city.

The wine cellars tour was ok but not very informative - essentially was a promotion of the company's products - and the group of visitors was too large, we could hardly hear/ see the activities. The Fado show was a poor experience - The musicians were good but the the show was essentially a kindergarten with many screaming kinds, it was just undoable to enjoy the ambience of the show. Of course kids will be kids, but the service providers did not care at all to mitigate/ control the problem. We asked to change seats but the answer was 'no', in a very rude manner. Overall, a bad experience and a poorly organised tour/ event.

Wonderful guide tour and great fado

Excellent guide tour, the host made our experience very pleasent. She also explained what we would drink beforehand. The fado was amazing, two singers 10 songs in total. Very pleasent and engaging. We had a wonderful time, recommended!

Excellent would recommend
This was an excellent experience, a short but informative tour of the port cellars led by a very knowledgeable guide, followed by 2 glasses of port which had already been described by the guide so we knew what we were drinking. The Fado singers and guitarists were excellent and overall this was a fantastic evening.

We enjoyed the performance. It was just right time. We came to Porto first time and were interested in porto wine cellar tour with tasting during Fado concert. we were not disappointed.

Very enjoyable show and good port
The visit the Calem was very informative and delicious port samples, both white and red. The show had a female and male singers. Both were very good and less melancholic then the typical traditional Faldo.

Herded like sheep, tasted only two wines, and treated poorly

The English guided port tour was fast and very poorly run. We took it on October 5th, 2023. It seemed not like a wine tour but multiple groups being herded like sheep. At one point, it was so crowded that we got lost and followed a different group. We missed half of the tour because the lady guide just ran through the explanations and if you were at the back you could not listen. When we went to the tasting room again there were multiple tables with no explanations of the wine we were tasting. There were only 2 wines, one tawny and one red ( instead of the four port varieties) that we were expecting. Not only this, even though we had got our tickets from Calem directly and well in advance, we were put at the back and could hardly see the singers. Our entire experience was ruined due to the way we were treated, as if we were on a manufacturing belt. It was disappointing to say the least and ruined our evening.

Fantastic experience. Wine cellar tour was interesting and the fado music was brilliant. 2 ports were given. A bit on the small side. Would have like an option to even purchase a glass to drink whilst watching the fado

When in Porto a Fado show is an excellent way to experience some of the Portuguese culture and history.

Only thing worth it is the Fado show

The wine cellar: poor guided, fast (didn’t give us time to learn anything).
Wine tasting: zero information. I didn’t even know what I was drinking exactly.
Fado show: wow. The only great thing in the evening. Great singers and great guitar players!!!
