There is something magic about this tip of the island. The extensive walk from the car park onwards, the lunar landscape, the beautiful bay, the constant view over the Desertas Islands in the horizon, all of it contributes to providing the visitor with a sense...More

The walk begins at the car park at the end of the road. Easy access by car with free parking. It took us 6 hrs with many stops for photographs and long, relaxing swim at Praia das Sardinhas. Take water and food with you as...More

Could spend a whole day here if you are into walking but with little kids we just drove up to see the stunning views which was well worth it.

Go for a long long walk and enjoy the light at different times of the day. A photographers dream. Good walking.

We left Funchal with the 113 bus from the SAM terminal at 9am in order to get to Ponta de Sao Lourenco (Baia d'Abra is the name of the bus stop) by mid-morning. The ticket can be purchased on board and it costs only 3.35...More

This was a solid three hour hike with some challenging spots where sand/stone required close attention over the steepest inclines and descents. Great views and easy access via car or bus make this a popular walk- would suggest heading out early or later in the...More

We drove there in our rental car very easily. It’s a strenuous hike up and down inclined paths and steps. The views are beautiful and if you bring your bathing suit (and have the energy) you can take one of the paths down to a...More

We did this by ourselves. We caught the SAM 113 bus from Funchal which takes about 1hour and 15 mins. It drops you at the start of the walk and goats 3euros 35cents. The was itself is 4km to the top then 4 again back...More

Atypical part of the island, the views are particularly beautiful, but can be very windy ! finding a parking spot for the car can be somewhat tricky. Go early, to avoid the crowds and enjoy even more the views.

dust, humidity, warm weather, but very strong wind is cold. I would say it was extreme weather in October here, still pleasant views of surrounding ocean and how it hits rocks from one side and calm beaches from the other side... No WC in turistic...More

A good sticky/grippy sole is the most important thing here- some of the descents are slippery because of loose sand and pebbles. I wore low cut, light weight, water friendly Merrells with a vibram sole for all the hikes we... More
