I was lucky to be there on a such nice sunny day in the end of November. Bus number 113 goes from the SAM company bus stop near the marina in Funchal. It runs everyday but less frequent on Sunday. Some of them go up to Baia, which is right front of the walk starting and took about an hour... More

Marvelous, breathtaking views on bays, islands, and ocean on both sides of the Sao Lourenco peninsula.

This place is magical. You drive until a point and later on you need to walk for 4K to get to the actual point. A must see if you are in Maderia, Eastern most point of the island.

We had a great walk at this stunning location. You get the bus to the Baia D'Abra car park and the walk starts there. It is quite magnificent, with spectacular views throughout the 4 hours or so that it takes. In the heat it could be quite gruelling as there is little or no shade, but we had to cope... More

We stumbled upon this walk after heading east, on foot from our hotel. Walking uphill to the car park we decided to follow the path. We were not prepared for what we discovered. We were drawn in literally to continue to walk due to the scenery. We had to stop and then back at Ponte de Arierto as we didn't... More

This is an excellent hiking path with great sea views over the cliffs ans crashing waves. It is about an 8 km round trip and takes about 3 hours to enjoyably complete. The end of the hike takes you up a 300 ft volcanic hill which offers stunning views to the end of the peninsula.

This is an incredibly interesting and scenic hike (PR 8). It's very different from the lavada hikes on the western parts of the island. Here vegetation is sparse but the coloured rock cliffs, the aggressive waves beating against long extinct volcanic crevices and mountainous walls, elevated views of the eastern shores, and impeccably groomed trails make this hike special &... All those organised trips cost a fortune. With driving licence sent for changes, I was left with walking and public transport. I woke up, and decided to take the next 113 bus (Sam company) to Caniçal. Well, Caniçal is not the place to go to :-) After a coffee in this port town, I jumped on the next bus, this... More

Most stunning part of the island in my opinion, really lovely walk - be prepared for a bit of a walk if you want to walk the entire thing and be ready for some ups and downs. It was really sunny when we started but we only got about half way an had to turn back as it was way... More

You can't miss this tip of the island when you visit Madeira. It's so different! The raw peaks, awesome cliffs (often it's quite terrifying to see the height). But most of all, you can see the colorful layers that are a reminder of the island's volcanic past. The walk is not difficult, but don't forget to take enough water with... More
