We had a rainy day and decided to visit this museum. Staff at visitor's center and the museum (two separate buildings) were helpful. We saw no one else there the entire 90 minutes we spent between the two. Due to the covid the movie was not being shown. Being this was the MacArthur museum, it had a very favorable biography of MacArthur and it was interesting to learn about his family. However, subsequent reading afterward, indicated he was not the great leader of men portrayed in the museum. So a complete picture requires some work. I am guessing there must be an elevator somewhere, but expect some serious steps.

Going here is a two part trip as there are two different museums to walk through. It is also free which is a plus to add into your trip throughout Norfolk. Inside the actual memorial is the more interesting side and there are many great artifacts from back in the day. I learned a lot by visiting the memorial.

Spent time in town and discovered a lot of places to visit - for FREE. This place was a unexpected. We aren’t vastly knowledgeable about history but this is the one and only General MacArthur. Fantastic displays through an historical building showcasing his father’s military history and then his time through 3 American wars. Impressive cases of medals of honor at the end. Website will tell you park in the mall garage South entrance (MacArthur Center seems to be a large, emptying mall and the garage is city-run). The person at the desk of the museum will validate your parking ticket for up to 3 hours but this is a 1-2 hour location. It appears the city passenger train also stops close enough for a short walk, and there seems to be a bike trail close by along the river too. One of many historical points of interest.

This museum was dedicated to the life and the achievements of General Douglas MacArthur. MacArthur and his wife were also buried here. The museum offered free admission and the staff was very polite and knowledgeable. The museum was located in the heart of downtown which was very close to the MacArthur Center (big indoor mall) and the waterfront. There were parking garages nearby or one could park for free around Ghent and then walk over to the museum.

The MacArthur Memorial complex has two buildings, which include a museum that focuses more on the general history of events while MacArthur was serving as in various capacities as a military general. The memorial building itself houses the resting place of General MacArthur & his wife. You go on a self guided, chronological tour and get a very detailed glimpse into the life of the iconic General. We were delighted to have toured the exhibits & recommend it to anyone interested in WW2 & Korean War history to visit this memorial.

The MacArthur Memorial is a hidden jewel. It effectively places General MacArthur's life in a broad historical context and underscores his importance in the pantheon of American heroes. The Memorial and museum are clearly the result of archival passion and expertise.

I was pleasantly surprised at how detailed and well-put together the MacArthur Memorial was. It’s called a “Memorial”, but in reality, it’s a full-blown museum with numerous artifacts, exhibits and educational displays to observe and soak in.

The atrium where GEN MacArthur and his spouse are laid to rest is majestic and impressive and is surrounded by two floors of content. If you’re a big military buff, you could easily spend 2+ hours in there. Otherwise, you could probably breeze through in like 45 to 60 mins and still get the jist of GEN MacArthurs life and career.

If you have time, recommend arranging a guided group tour with one of the historians. Great way to learn and well worth it.

This is a great place to visit and and a beautiful memorial for a great military leader. You will see items that was his on display and a staff car and motorcycle. The museum is free to all who visits. This museum is just a couple blocks from the World War II battleship.

It was a very heart warming visit.. we didn't expect that this museum is just next to our hotel. I am from Philippines, and I only learn Macarthur's life on or history book,. I had goosebumps when i saw pictures and his actual belongings. I was so happy and overwhelmed and took my time to pay respect on his resting place. thank you for freeing us from the Japanese during WWII

We visited the MacArther Memorial this week. Nicely done tribute. Plenty of artifacts on view. Free admission. If your are a WWII buff, you need to see this. If you are not a WWII buff, go see it anyway.
