If you ever get the chance to walk to the top, the views are fantastic, the history of the lighthouse is very interesting, it is very well maintained and overall a great experience and free of charge. It is only open on Wednesday between 2-5pm when we visited in September.

We walked from Costa nova over the wooden foot paths to see this farol. The walk was very nice, near the sea and the dunes. The farol is big and impressive. We didn't go up because the weather was to bad that day to have a nice view.

After a long wait, we got to climb almost 300 steps to see a wonderful view from one of the talest lighthouses in the Iberian peninsula. Opens on Wednesday afternoons.

As the highest lighthouse in Portugal, it is a great place to visit and look at the amazing view.
We were welcomed by a great explanation of how this lighthouse came to be and how it has changed over the years before going up the 290 steps to reach the top, with a beautiful view from above the region.
One thing I must say to anyone reading this is that the elevator in it is not in use for visits (not because of the bad will of the people working in the lighthouse I assure you). Which means, to reach the top, you'll need to be able to walk those steps, so this warning is mostly for elders and people with disabilities.

The biggest light house of the region, maybe whole Portugal? Not sure about that. It's a nice light house. Too bad I couldn't visit it on the inside. It's only on a certain day... Worth a visit.

If go to Aveiro, off course you have to see it, is the tallest lighthouse of Portugal! But, the real attraction is the beach.

The visits are free and only at some days of the week. We went on a Wednesday, visits are from 2pm until 5pm and no need to book. Guide is done by the military people that work and look after the lighthouse. I have to mention that they do an excellent job looking after it. They do all maintenance themselves, from electrical, painting, gardening, etc... Very friendly and enthusiastic. In Portuguese language only. Get ready to go up to the top by the 271 steps, stop in the middle for some amazing views while you catch up your breath. No doubt, a place not to miss.

On the corner of barra beach is this massive lighthouse just in front of a hotel and a few cafes. Its a stunning building and would impress you right away. If you are fit and you have a strong personality, you can climb the almost 300 steps to the top of the lighthouse to have a good view of the shore and the nearby cities. A great activity if you are in the area.
