- Roger JBrisbane, Australia19 contributionsFantastic location and wonderful communityLevanto is a lovely clean town where the local residents take pride in every aspect of life in their community. It is quite flat which means getting around the town is very easy. Access to the more touristy areas of Cinque Tera (ie the five towns) is easy as they are all on the same train line. Access to Levanto is also easy by car or ferry. Levanto is a hikers and bikers paradise as the trails lead straight up into the surrounding hills - as well as some very well maintained paths for the less adventurous "through" (ie tunnels) the hills to the north. The beaches are great and the water perfect for all ages and skill levels. Spend a day exploring the coast by kayak or get a private boat tour - the choice is yours. Prices are good and all the locals are very friendly and helpful - language is no barrier! Levento is a gem and I would highly recommend spending a week or more in this fantastic community.Visited June 2023Written 18 June 2023
- tonita-bonitaLondon, United Kingdom32 contributionsLovely place to visitGreat beach close to La Spesia, very clean, parking available but sometimes can be tricky to find space. The only downside was that most sun loungers are pre-booked by seasonal ticket owners, you may be in luck paying at the entrance of the beach but it is a bit pricey 40 Euro for two. There is however a free zone where you can place your towel and own umbrella if you wish. Some parts of the beach is sand, some is tiny round stones. There are open showers and taps where you can wash before you go, the enclosed shower was not working, also plenty of toilets.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 July 2023

You will soon find out that most of the beach is owned. We went down to a couple of places and they all wanted about £33 euros to have a sunbed on there bit of beach. No way would we pay that. The beaches that you pay for are not good for swimmers, as its so rocky. We watched people trying to get in the water and promptly give up. However there are free places along the beach, you just have to find them, and they have no big stones.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 November 2023

We paid 23€ for a sunbed and were set to the back line, far away from the water. The reason they gave us was that all other sunbeds were reserved for seasonal customers, even though there was only 2 other people present.

A bit too busy to really enjoy it in august. There’s not many sunbeds available. We went to the sandy side on the free beach. the water was lovely. Maybe there’s more option at the pebble beach on the other side. The next day we biked to Bonassola which had a much much better beach we thought.

Levanto is the nearest Italian Riviera town with a beach to the Cinque Terre National Park. It is a great base from which to explore the park villages via train or ferry. There is plenty of room between the private beach clubs for the public and all sorts of water toys (kayaks, SUP's, etc.) are available for rent.

Beach is clean, although naturally very rocky. Water shoes are a must to best enjoy your experience. Water is cool, clear, and refreshing. Two beach bars within walking distance to have a quick bite or enjoy an afternoon cocktail before heading back.

Unlike some negative reviews here I had a great time on the beach of Levanto. Yes, it is an Italian problem that they leave just a small piece of the beach free for people to put their towels and the rest they fill up with sunbeds. It is sad but it is the same everywhere in Italy, no choice. But I went during the week in September and there was enough space. Water was lovely, the views are great. I had a wonderful time and just a 15 minute walk from the train station.

The beach was great and had showers as well. The water was calm and the kids could wade in easily. For COVID there are distances between places where people can sit. Sadly a large part of the beach is for this reason paid right now and they are usually reserved fully so you need to try your luck with space in the the public part of the beach which is smaller and spread out.

Wonderful beach to walk or swim or just sit and watch the sea! We strolled along the beach and talked to the locals. Very relaxing.

Hi, We are going to stay in Levanto, close to the train station. Do you need to reserve train tickets for Cinque Terre in advance or they can be purchased on the spot? We plan to go there in July, peak-time.

The Cinque Terre card (which i recommend, gives you unlimited access to the Cinque Terre trains for the day) can be purchased directly at the Levanto station. Crowds will be huge, though, so you might want to purchase them early in the morning, or the night before!

Hello everyone. I'm staying in Levanto in just over two weeks. I know it's going to be very busy and I'd like to hire a sun lounger at one of the paid beaches. Does anyone know the names of any of these resorts/ if they have websites where you can book in advance/ if there is likely to be space should I walk up early on the day? Also, if anyone knows roughly what the cost would be for a sunlounger for 2-3 hours, that would be great.
Thanks a lot :) Michelle

Hello,
We were in Levanto last month and relaxed at Central Beach. Two lounge chairs with umbrella cost 10 euro and the gentleman who waited on us did speak English. Be sure to take water shoes or thick soled flip flops as the sand is black and rocky - and hot! Check out their Facebook page and research trip advisor for more information. We found it to be clean and relaxing and less crowded than the beaches in Cinque Terra. Bring water.
