This is a small place at the top of a hill but well worth the walk up ( not least because of the lovely view.) I went on a Sunday morning ( despite being told it was closed on a Sunday, it wasn't.) If you are at all interested in ancient history or just styles of pottery, this is a place... More

It's probably safe to state that very few visitors to Ischia (and Lacco Ameno, specifically) know this fine museum exists. It's a wonderful find for those who are interested in learning about the island's geology and earliest peoples. Artifacts are displayed chronologically, and some information is in English. A pleasant garden area is part of the museum grounds, as is... More

Although small it is full of wonderful artefacts . An archaeologist was on hand to explain. The history of the island was revealed. More should be available in the English language.

I have been to the island of Ischia numerous times, and have visited the Museo Archeologico di Pithecusae several times as well. It is situated in the "once beautiful", Villa Arbusto. On previous visits this garden and villa were a lovely place to visit. I was disappointed this past week (June 20, 2016), to see that the villa is "run... More

The Museum Pithecusae is an important step about the birth of the Magna Grecia. Besides the Nestor's Cup there many other interesting objects from prehistoric times to 2nd century A.C. Next door you will find the exhibition dedicated to Angelo Rizzoli with photos from the 50's to 70's in Lacco Ameno and the birth of modern tourism. Not to miss... More

Don't miss this museum which is extraordinary. It has many artifacts from prehistoric times, but the best exhibits for me were those of the early Greeks who settled on the island in 750 B.C. among them is the Cup of Nestor which has a sample of early Greek writing incised on it. From the museum you have beautiful views of... More

The Nestor's cup is here among other greek vases to admire. Beautiful garden and views to the town. Remember to visit also the other archeological museum under the town church - it's even more interesting as it is a real part of an ancient Greek city.

How many people even know there was an ancient Greek colony on Ischia in the 8th Century BC? So the ancient artifacts are generally Greek, including the Nestor cup with the oldest written Greek known to man (If I've got that right). It's also kid-friendly with model buildings that fascinate them.

The museum was very close to our hotel, but most of the other people we were with didn't even know it was there. It is a nice museum with many artifacts and a scavi area that was fascinating, but again, there was little signage, so it was hard to really know what I was seeing. I would recommend it to... More
