This castle sits on the top of the hill of the town of Bacharach. For most people this is an easy hike uphill. We are a senior couple and chose to take it easy. It took us a good 3 hours round trip but it was worth the effort. We hiked in the afternoon but the trail was mostly shaded.... More

This is a great place to go and have a cold beer or coffee and just admire the magnificent views of the Rhine.

Cool Burg towering over the town of Bacharach. It's quite the steep switchback hike up. It is also an active youth hostel, so there were many middle-school aged kids running around when we visited.

Beside the beautiful view of the city, The castle has inside a very cosy and friendly hostel where my friends and I slept during the weekend , breakfast is included. Very nice terrace just outside with a stunning view.

Its worth to climb the hill to have this perfect view to the river Rhine. Up there is a hostel at the castle.

We loved our short stay at Stahleck! "Live like the locals" should be the mantra for travelers who want to understand cultures, and this castle/hostel is a great way to follow that advice. The food is truly what you would expect; hearty, wholesome, plentiful, and local. Narrow stairways and bunk beds are what you will find here. You'll need good... More

We LOVED the views of the Rhine from these castle ruins. A lovey stop along the Rhine. We had great weather, which is great because it is mostly outdoors. We would recommend around an hour for this visit.

There isn't a famous tour, but if you're on the KD Line cruise and want to hop off and take a nice hike this stop is for you. It's free to hike the stairs and path all the way to the top and you can enjoy the view. They have turned this castle into a youth hostel so there is... More

Most enjoyable is the walk up the stairs and pathway behind the St. Peter Church to the Burg. There is a good "lookout" above the Burg where you can photograph, and you can walk almost all over the Burg. It is a Youth Hostel, also open to families, so keep that in mind when exploring.

Pleasant walk up from the old city of Bacharach, beautiful view over the Rhine river. No charge access. This is a youth hostel. Refreshments are available.
