I have visited several times and I always find something I either didn't see before or it's new. It's fun and educational. My kids have always been happy to go to see everything. The displays are great, and the people there are very knowledgeable.

An excellent collection of maritime artifacts and history of seafaring, with a fair bit of short films and interactive exhibits. The museum has two primary wins, one dedicated to the Ironsides of the Civil War, and the other a general history of sailing. Both each can take a good 3 hours to walk and see everything, but you can step... More

I have wanted to come here ever since the USS monitor came here. I was not disappointed. The quality of the displays and films in the area were excellent. My kids learned something they knew nothing about. And it was presented in a great interpretive way. The hands on exhibits here kept their interest for much longer than I expected.... More

Took the opportunity to add some history culture to our family wedding trip to Newport News! Although short on time, we enjoyed the engagement of the volunteers throughout the exhibits and ease of seeing all the history. Not crowded, plenty of space to linger ! We all took away the gentle reminders of how much the water battles played a... More

This gem of a museum will delights visitors and natives alike from the historical artifacts, the grounds and attractive playground for the little ones. The gift store is a pleaser with affordable souvenirs and memorable items for the baby to grandparents. Remember to have lunch at the cafe located inside the museum.

I had lived on the peninsula for almost a year before we decided to visit this museum, assuming it was just another local warehouse of artifacts. That was a mistake I regret fully now... the Mariner's Museum is an amazingly focused and curated experience. They have several standing exhibits (small water craft, wooden/model ships, nautical art, etc) that are remarkable... More

This museum has strong focus on the Navy, so of course there will be death and destruction as another reviewer claimed. But this is due to the numerous wars we've been involved, including wars before we were a country, ie exhibit on Admiral Nelson. There is also many other exhibits that do not focus on destruction such as the awesome... More

The wild life here is amazing! So are the trails and veiws. People on the trail are very nice and very into the out doors. Many good conversations have started with this place.

My teenage son (not a fan of most museums) loved this museum. He found it interesting and fascinating.

You can easily spend an entire afternoon here. Some of the oldest and best relics I have ever seen. See the restoration of the Monitor as it occurs. If you are a boater do not miss this.
