Interesting little monument in a odd place. I spotted the top of this monument when we first arrived at St-Pierre, it pokes through the houses from time to time and had me intrigued. It is an unuasual little thing, high and remeniscent of a lighthouse. It is quite pretty and the town obviously takes care of it, just a shame it is surrounded by cars.

By accident we can into the tower, as it is at the end of the car park of Saint Pierre.
You can walk around the tower, and there is a plaque, which explains why the tower is build.
It is nice to have a look when you are around. But I would not drive there just to see it.
p.s., the streets of the Village Saint Pierre are nice to roam.

The "lantern" is on in a square on the far side of town from main car park. It's an interesting tower surrounded by raised flower beds. Later I looked up the history and was surprised to find there is some confusion of both origin and meaning of towers which are mainly in and around western France (although there is one in Gloucestershire known as a Poor Souls' Light) - initially I thought they were a type of war memorial but that's not the case. I understand they have a hole in the top for a lantern which shone towards a cemetery and a door near the base allowed a pully arrangement to raise the lantern.

I always like to see buildings from our ancestors and most often I am very impressed what they built without modern machines.

We found this by accident while wandering around the town. It’s quite interesting but only takes a few minutes to see it. If you stumble across it then bonus but otherwise I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it.
