This site needs time to take in the many exhibits all of which are interesting. The museum is located in an historic location relating to a major Civil War battle in 1864

The Virginia Museum of the Civil War will draw broad interest from a lot of groups, some more enthusiastically than others. First, Virginia Military Institute (VMI) stalwarts should be ecstatic. VMI by the way administers the whole thing. Though only about 250 VMI cadets fought...More

The movie really gives you a quick overview of the battle at New Market and how VMI participated. Much of the museum was being renovated so the artifacts were limited. One of the houses has been saved and you can tour through the basement. The...More

This museum tells the story of the battle that took place at this location. Glad we stopped. The gate to the PA memorial was locked at 11:00 am. Disappointed.

During a recent visit to Virginia we stopped at the Virginia Museum of the Civil War, located parallel to I-81 in New Market. We spent over 2 hours touring the many displays looking at the videos and looking at the many artifacts of the war.

Nice Exhibits and Explanations - Wonderful art but not titles on the paintings. The 45 minute film concentrated on the VMI Cadets and their experiences - At least I believe this. I fond it a little boring left after 10 minutes.

Made a quick stop here, about an hour, but would have liked more time. Really enjoyed the military paintings. Good selection of books in the gift shop and friendly, knowledgeable staff.
