This was a feudal castle dating back to the 9th century. The towers, murder-holes and oubliettes give you a real feeling of an age-old mediaeval atmosphere.

Beautiful view

There is a very beautiful over the La-Roche-Ardenne from Chateau Foedal. The castle it self is a ruin, but it is nice to see.

It's nestled between a curve of the River Ourthe and the steep slopes of the Deister hill and built between the XI-XIIth and XIVth century tower over the town of La Roche. Located In the middle of town starting in an alleyway you have to walk up a steep cobblestone hill (which the cobblestones and stones are uneven) - there... More

This was clearly a pretty impressive fortress in its time and its strategic position above a key river valley must mean that it's seen some action over the years. However, if you're hoping to find out more by visiting then you'll be very disappointed. The 5 Euro entry fee does not include a guide of any sort, your only option... More

Nice to walk around. Lost of corners and rooms. But it is a ruïn so there are mostly stone walls that you pay for. It does have a very nice view. Steep clime to the ruïn itself.

We stopped here while on vacation in the Ardennes and it was wonderful. They happened to be having a medieval festival at the castle ruins when we went up to see it. I think they do it the whole summer but I really recommend going. There were some wonderful events, archery demonstrations, blacksmith and cooking booths, live music, even a... More

Yes it is a ruin which people are working hard to try to restore. We got an English leaflet that explained everything about what the various areas were used for. Thought the birds could have done with some more care ie water as it was a hot day. We missed the bird show though but they are on display around... More

The place is okay. I imagine it's fun for kids to run around and explore the grounds. The entrance fee is quite steep though, considering what there is to see. Furthermore, you have to pay for all activities inside, except some show involving birds of prey. The lady at the entrance was quite rude, ignoring us for 2 minutes while... More

This castle is one of the most historic and old castles in Belgium. Allegedly, it is also "haunted". Every summer it hosts various festivities and activities and its "ghost" plays also a role. Its promotion is understood, since I guess a significant part of the economy of the small and beautiful town of La Roche is based on this attraction.... More

Unfortunately the castle is nowadays a ruin, But still very much worth visiting. Built between the 9th and the 14th century the castle has always been an important part of the city. If you're interested in the history of the castle make sure to ask for an extra folder they have at the reception which will explain you everything you... More

The town of La Roche is very nice but small. You can reach the castle by a steep walkway from the centre of the town. Interesting site.
