You can’t miss this Cathedral in Granada. Considering that most of the city is flat, this building stands out easily amongst the other structures. Towering far above all of it, visible from kilometres around, are the distinctive yellow and white bell towers and dome of the Catedral de Granada.
There’s been a church here since the late 16th century, but, along with other key sites in the city, it suffered at the hands of raiders in the centuries since. In 1856, the church was destroyed at the behest of William Walker}. Later in the century, rebuilding began but continued only fitfully due to lack of funding. The current version that you see now as largely complete by about 1915.
The inside is not the most ornate of the old city’s Catholic cathedrals. In fact, it’s relatively sparsely decorated. But what it lacks in crammed-to-the-rafters lavishness it makes up for in scale and a sense of space and calm. The nave is expansive and spacious.
The main altar piece is a strikingly beautiful arrangement of a statue of Mary surrounded by silver and backed by bright blue mosaic tiles. Spaced around the interior are a number of statues depicting religious figures and other religious artwork. And off to one side is a small but pretty little white chapel.
Well worth visiting and allow at least 30 minutes to explore the inside and outside.

The staff service is terrible. Rude, unhelpful, and demanding. There is a fee to climb up narrow stairs to see the town...nice activity as you're walking by the cathedral.

Beautiful old chuck, amazing the history in here! Try to go up every bell tower you can! The view will not disappoint.

Located one block away from my hotel, this was the first attraction I visited in Granada. With its size and colorful Yellow/orange facades, It can be easily seen from the distance.
The decorations are simple and at a minumum for a cathedral. I quicky said my prayers here and moved on.

We really loved walking around the square where the Cathedral is in. The architectural design is absolutely beautiful, and the inside also very pretty. I highly recommend going on top to get the beautiful views!

Being featured on one of the money bills of the country is "quite deservedly so" I would say for this cathedral with really a "vibrant & inviting" appearance from its facades to the dome above (to enter by going around to the left from the front though). But yes as awesome as the exterior is, the interior is one which didn't take me long where after looking up at the ceiling for some "big colorful" art scenes painted on it (about 6 in total with 2 above each of the 3 aisles) is just a relatively bare interior overall where apart from the main altar at the far end are just a pretty few number of shrines or secondary altars and which are not along the two length-sides but just kind of scattered around the Cathedral (although not my unique experience, among many cathedrals visited in South & Central Americas, of being in a "relatively empty" cathedral with actually a similar one that I visited just 2 days later which was the main cathedral of Leon with also a pretty bare interior despite its huge size).
Located on the east side of the town's "main plaza" Parque Central (with really a "lively atmosphere" for the row of horse carriages along the west side & the row of souvenir vendors in tents along the north side), in a close proximity to this cathedral (just about a 5-minute walk straight west until arriving at that cathedral on a street corner) is Iglesia de la Merced which despite with a smaller size than this cathedral has "more to see" inside & where be sure to go up its tower for some great views (of the big volcano Volcan Mombacho "clearly visible" to the south & of a "wide expanse" of Lake Nicaragua to the east with also the view of this cathedral at "about halfway"). And also from this cathedral for about a 15-minute walk east (in the "opposite direction" from that to La Merced) is some nice rectangular-shaped park along the "lake front" of Lake Nicaragua where apart from its pretty great view are also a big '(heart) Granada' sign (likely for a person to stand beside for a "full sign"!) & a statue of Cordoba the conquistador who founded this country.
If coming from Managua, there's a "collectivo minivan" from the UCA station or such (just a collection of bus shelters on a roadside for a number of local destinations also including Leon) for just a "pretty reasonable" fare for about a 1.5-hour ride which actually arrives right at Parque Central (on a far corner from this cathedral for just a short walk across the Plaza).

The murals that adorn the ceiling and walls of this church are absolutely phenomenal! Each panel depicts a different scene from the Bible, including the creation story and Noah's arc. This is still a work in progress, and it was cool to see some work in progress.
For 60c you can enter the bell tower, which has nice views of the area and some great vantage points for photos.
The exterior of the church is also very pretty and it is painted a distinctive shade of yellow, which is repeated in other buildings in the city.

The facade of the cathedral is quite ordinary. Yes, I did not expect more from the Nicaraguan resort town. But inside the cathedral makes an impression ... you should go here.

Wonderful to find such a lovely cathedral in Granada, Central America. Paintings, altar, carvings all exuded the beauty of this religious church.

Beautiful Church located right in the heart of the city in Central Park. Free to entry and well worth checking out. Some photos on Trip Advisor are wrong and obviously of the Cathedral in Granada Spain

Catedral de Granada is not a hotel, it is a church. However there are many places to stay in Granada in a full range of prices and amenities. The high-end Hotel Plaza Colon is located right across the central park from the cathedral.
