The water is clear and lots of fish and corals. We had a great day scuba’s here 👍🏼 the staffs are very kind and gave clear instruction to us. The gears are new and clean. Really recommend the BB divers Koh Kood😊

While beaches in Koh Chang are not particularly great, the island offers flamboyant nature and quite a few things to do if you are into active tourism. Kayaking around the islands in front of Kai Bae, or renting a bike to explore the East coast are well worth the effort.
Nightlife is not great but at least it is relatively easy to find good food at reasonable prices. As in other places in Thailand, the transport mafia is a shame. When a 5 minutes ride by taxi is more expensive than a dinner, and when you have to negotiate in every single trip, something very unfair is going on. Hard to understand why the authorities don’t stop that, as it is obviously damaging the tourism and the image of Thailand among travelers.

The best place by far to have a day out at sea. Plenty of different fish, coral and marine life in general. Steer away from the 4-5-6 island snorkelling tours. Just ask to come here. You will not be disappointed.

Terrible.... we were unlucky enough to be here on a Saturday. Literally hundreds of local tourists with life jackets and dozens of boats... Not recommended....

It took about 1.5-2 hours from Koh Mak and about 1 hour going back (current and wind was in my favour on the way back).
Advantages of going by yourself are you can spend as much time as you want there, you can go to the islands just North-East of Koh Rang which are currently closed to tourist boats (they're actually closest to Koh Mak), you're not in a big group to scare the fish away and you ain't paying no 200 baht national park fee.
I kayaked here all the way from Koh Chang over about 3-4 days, stopping at Koh Khlum, Koh Wai and Koh Mak, just to see the fish around Koh Rang. The rest of the snorkelling around Koh Chang is poor but this place was comparable with Koh Tao and Koh Surin.
I'll upload some photos. All these photos are from just off Koh Rang, on the 3-4 islands I mentioned just North of Koh Rang.

Mainly on nearby islets. Lots of corals, fishes and fish schools. Crystal clear water.
Not stayed there. I have been there with day trip.

I have been here many times diving. Koh Rang has by far the best dive spots around Koh Chang, Koh Mak, and Koh Kood. Snorkeling is also good
Best diving is January to April
May to June and October to December is OK
July to September is not that good actually
Best base for diving is Koh Mak actually, only a short jump to Koh Rang and you will be the first boat at the dive sites
200 baht for western adults, 100 for western children, 40/20 baht for Thais. Bring Thai work permit or perhaps driving license if you have and you will pay Thai price
I can highly recommend a day trip here

I visited the snorkel sites of Koh Rang once a few years ago while staying on Koh Kood. Last month, I had the chance to do it again as a day trip from Koh Chang. And Koh Rang is still good (and crowded) as before. It is not spectacular, but worth the effort to come out of your resort.
A trip to here is safe enough for senior travelers who can walk without assistance. Young children are okay too if their parents can handle them. The water around this area is not too choppy. Travelers who do not snorkel can still enjoy the scenery and the beaches where the boats usually stop for lunch service. One of them is Had Sarn Jao (Sarn Jao Beach) near the southern end of Koh Rang. Another is Ao Bor (Bor Bay) where the national park has its accommodation houses and real toilets for all tourists.
Try to rent a small boat of your own or a shared one with people from your resort. Avoid those double-decker fishing boats with 50+ tourists. They are just too crowded to enjoy anything.

Take a speedboat or woodenboat for day cruise and stop for snorkling. You can just take sun or explore island.

ciao
raggiungere a piedi ?
grazie
Ciao

I read somewhere that there are bungalows in Koh Rang. Is it possible to rent these? Also, is there off the beach snorkeling there, or do we have to rent boats? What is the easiest way to get to Ko Rang from Trat and stay a couple of nights and then back to Trat mainland?
Written 15 March 2016
The Bungalows on Ko Rang are not for rent.
