My Experience with Akshi Yogashala's 200hr YTT Program"
I successfully finished the 200hr Yoga Teacher Training program at Akshi Yogashala, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The course material was well-organized, making it easy to grasp both in theory and practice. What stood out the most was the warm support from Vivek and the entire team. They were always available to address any questions or concerns that arose during the course. Additionally, when I faced personal challenges, the team went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. Looking ahead, I'm excited to continue my yoga journey with Akshi Yogashala by enrolling in their 300hr YTT program. It's been an enriching experience so far, and I can't wait to learn even more.
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with Akshi Yogashala! We’re truly honored to have been a part of your yoga journey and are delighted to hear that you found the course material well-structured and the team supportive. Vivek and the entire team are passionate about ensuring every student feels guided and cared for, and it’s heartwarming to know their efforts made a difference for you. We’re thrilled that you’re considering the 300-hour YTT program and look forward to welcoming you back to deepen your practice and teaching skills. Wishing you continued growth and success on your yoga path! Namaste.

Experiencing Yoga as a Unity of Mind, Body and Soul
I had an amazing 2 months experience studying 500h TTC in India due to this school. Comfortable conditions and a pleasant yard, it is easy to feel like home here. Stuff is very attentive and caring, always fresh and tasty homemade food, any questions or problems are solved immediately. Special thanks to Maya and Mukesh, who organised all the processes, such as study, tours and routine life, who were always here to help and support. I’ve met genuine teachers here, who are wise, serious yet friendly and kind. I’ve got a lot of nice memories from Akshi Yogashala and the people I met here will always stay in my heart.
Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt review of your 500-hour TTC experience with us at Akshi Yogashala! We’re thrilled to hear that you felt at home here and appreciated the comfortable environment, delicious food, and attentive care from our staff. Maya and Mukesh, along with the rest of the team, work tirelessly to ensure every student’s journey is smooth and memorable, and it’s wonderful to know their efforts made a difference for you. We’re especially glad that our teachers and the connections you made during your time here left such a lasting impact. Your kind words and memories mean the world to us. Wishing you continued growth and joy on your yoga journey! Namaste.

I can safely recommend this school. I've been here twice. And I know for a fact I'm not coming again!
I went to this school for a 200h course in 2019 and then in November 2024 I went for a 300h course. This is where I originally drove. Because the first trip left a very good impression. Highlights - stunning views around, the shore of the Ganges can be reached in 5 minutes and endlessly admire all the beauty that surrounds! The locals are very friendly and friendly (if you know English, they are always happy to chat). There are a lot of small cafes around where you can eat deliciously and inexpensively. But we didn't go to the café very often, because at school 3 times a balanced meal (vegetarian) and we had enough)) The cooks at school are cooked with soul and everything was very good 🤤 I know a lot of people are afraid to go to India because of the unsanitary conditions. I can reassure you, in all our time at school, none of us have had any problems with that. So I can't say for the whole of India, but specifically in this school and this part of Rishikesh, everything is great (and safe). There's nothing wrong with housing either. The rooms have everything you need, hot water is uninterrupted. Free Wi-Fi. On weekends, the school organized free trips to beautiful places. One weekend there was a rafting trip through the Ganges (it's unforgettable!). As for training, we had a course with Russian translation. I can't single out any teachers, absolutely all the professionals in their field (who, besides , really love what they do). Organizer Maya is always in touch (almost 24/7), helping with absolutely any questions (even if it was not about training). Anyway, I know for a fact that I'm coming back and coming here. I don't even want to consider other options. Because that's where I found everything I was looking for. And more! MUCH MORE! Thank you again! And see you later!🙏

Amazing yoga retreat in Rishikesh with delicious wholesome food
Had an absolute great yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️ retreat at Akshi Yogashala. Amazing good energy and vibes. Mukesh and Maya and all the team make you feel like home and the food is the absolute best I have ever eaten in India! 🇮🇳 Sattvic meals were fresh, delicious and healthy so we would always get more and never feel heavy. I was able to join some of the Teacher training classes which were very interesting and I cannot thank Akshi for their warmth and knowledge. Had some excursions and activities in the program on top of yoga and meditation. Rooms are simple and clean. I am normally allergic to many things but everything is perfect there (no dust mites, perfume). Totally recommend!!

My journey in this school started in 2017 I completed 200 hours and of course I came back already back to my family for 300 hours.
It has changed my whole life, my understanding my awareness. The teachers helped me to awaken the power of my mind and body.
The professionalism of this school knows no bounds they are kind cheerful funny intillegent and intellectual.

Be assured that you will be taken care of and given quality knowledge that will allow you to stand on your own feet. You will be strong in body and mind!

Put aside all doubts and expectations and go to learn such art as yoga and your whole inner world will be illuminated with light.
Zero in and your mind will be filled with good knowledge and everything will automatically fall in place

I am grateful to AkshiYogashala you are my family.
The place where I want to come back again and again.

Namaste! Thanks to Akshi Yoga Shala, yoga is now a part of my life, and Rishikesh is forever in my heart. I came for a 200-hour yoga teaching course, but it got delayed, and I stayed for another 300 hours! Two months of training flew by like one day. I felt at home - cozy rooms, delicious food, excursions. And most importantly - people with whom you feel comfortable. I thank all the Teachers for the opportunity to touch the knowledge and culture of Himalayan yoga. Om!🙏.

I was in Akshi yogshala for my 200 hrs yttc program in March. I feel this was one of the best decision I have taken in my life. I am glad I chose to be here. We were lucky enough to be taught by the best teachers in Rishikesh. I feel this one month has not only brought changes in my physical health but I feel a different person mentally aswell. This place has made me aware even on spiritual level. People who are living here are angels in disguise, they takecare of you like family. They will be there for you 24*7 despite of the timings. We were served with amazing food all the time, Infact the food was the star point during the whole stay. People here are so warm. I miss you Vivek sir, Karamjit sir, dadi, maya mam, baby vedarth, dharam bhaiya and last but not the least Mukesh Sir. Miss you all. I am waiting for them to begin 300 hrs as I cannot think of any other place now.

What I learned during my stay there wasn't just about asanas or philosophy, but also how to take better care of my life. Now, I respect myself more than ever, and I believe it makes those around me happier. I can't wait to come back.

I had an amazing experience for my 200hr yoga ttc in Akshi yogashala (28 days). We were thaught the old Himalayan yogic traditions and it is transformative. From mantra's, philosophy, pranayama to hatha, vinyasa, anatomy, alignment of postures to meditation classes. The teachers are very knowledgeable, have a lot of experience and love to share that.

Everything was sublime and every question was answered beyond my expectations. They made us feel comfortable during our stay and our practices. The yogic food that was served was very delicious! Rooms are basic but comfortable. The neighborhood is peaceful and calm and very close to the ganga!

A much recommended school, they really look after you!

All the trainers at Akshaya Yogashala are well knowledgeable and experienced, they know how to deal with different people especially, they work on your weakness first. Will work step by step on body and mind.

I had overall, a very positive experience at Akshi- some of the teachers were amazing, and I made some friends for life. However, the actual asana classes were the worst yoga I have ever done in my life. One teacher in particular (who was also the alignment teacher), was unknowlegable and careless, the kind of teacher you would never pay money to go to his class, let alone feel confident in his ability to teach new teachers. It was a huge disappointment every day, as I felt I would have gotten a much better education doing drop in classes elsewhere, or even on YouTube. I chose Akshi based on all the great reviews so I just wanted to write and suggest you do some research as to who the asana teachers will be before spending your money here. Everything else was great, food and accommodation and the practical classes and I did enjoy my experience there, however, the asana classes were terrible and for me, that was an important factor and I didn't leave feeling like I learned anything I didn't know already, or feel confident to teach safely. Just a heads up! Good luck! :)

Namaste! Thanks for taking part in our teacher training course and for sharing your experience with others. We were pleased to read you liked the teachers, food and accommodation, but were sorry to hear there were some issues with one of the teachers. We wish that this hadn’t happened. Please rest assured we have addressed this with the team to ensure we improve on this. Whenever you will be in Rishikesh please attend any our classes for free!

I feel that all the 5* reviews are misleading, so to anyone who REALLY wants to become a teacher, I’m writing a bit more sober review, trying to be as objective as I can.

1) Most of the people in the course were total (unsporty) beginners with less than 3 months of yoga experience. It’s apparent that, given the high number of YTT courses in Rishikesh, the schools compete and accept just everyone.

2) That being said, it's clear that the level of the course was rather low. We're talking BEGINNER level. Why these people don’t go for a yoga RETREAT, I don’t know. In Europe, you’re usually expected to have been practicing yoga intensely for at least 1,5y before entering such a course. Not here.

3) HATHA yoga disaster: The first teacher we got was certainly not perfect, as he wasn't explaining anatomical details, but he was really kind and the lessons were nice, introducing multiple asanas per class. Then a few discontent beginner girls complained that "it didn't feel nice how he was adjusting them to asanas“ and we got a new teacher - Rahul. 29 years old and the worst and most arrogant teacher I've ever seen in my life.
The whole class felt more like a therapy in a hospital, for injured or retired people. Max. 3 asanas in 1,5 hours, I'm not exaggerating. I gradually stopped participating and then even attending this guy's classes, and I wasn’t the only one having a problem with him. He had very strong opinions about everything: "gymnasts perform only because they want an aplause; if they don't get an applause, they're in depression!" (very interesting for me as a former gymnast to hear such disrespectful and arrogant nonsense in a yoga class). Or "bodybuilders have muscles, but they have no strength whatsoever; it's not healthy, they can't really move, it's nonsense!"
He stubbornly insisted on whatever he said even if it was obviously nonsense (not using back muscles at all in Bhujangasana…). His self-confidence about his limited strong opinions about everything is inappropriate.

4) ASHTANGA lessons were lead by another Rahul, a 22y old with admirable condition and a lot of knowledge. The level of the ashtanga lessons was high (meaning both quality of teaching and that they were physicaly demanding). 90% of the class was not able to perform most of the asanas of the 1st ashtanga series, doing simple modifications, and most of the class was just sitting there at the end. Not Rahul’s fault, but just a necessary consequence of that also beginners are accepted to do a YT course…
The only thing: be prepared for an Indian way of teaching (and this goes for most teachers in India). A teacher - "guruji" - is almost a God, traditionally very respected. The hierarchy in the class is very clear and you'll be demanded to show respect. That felt weird and annoyed me at the beginning, as he entered the class, gave those who were late a rocket, said we had to align our shoes properly in front of the hall, we couldn't drink in the class, controlled if everyone had a towel (as if we were children) etc. If he did this in Europe, he'd be fired. Anyway, he turned out to be an excellent teacher, and despite his age he’s a highly spiritual, knowledgeable and considerate person.

5) The PRANAYAMA and PHILOSOPHY/ANATOMY teachers, a bit older, and thus quite enlightened and relaxed, were great. Both the atmosphere, their personality and the content of the classes was nice. But I don't really share that "it was the most amazing experience of my life, I learned so much" opinion in other reviews. Sure, if you wake up one day and decide to do a yoga teacher course out of the blue, then it’ll probably be a unique experience with lots of new information. If you’ve been on that path for a while, don’t expect too much.
Pranayama was on high level, the teacher was just great, very far on his spiritual path, able to pass his knowledge further; I learned a lot.
ANATOMY is not taught as in Western terms... More like nadis (meridians), chakras etc. Which is OK, it was very interesting, but be prepared that it won’t be enough to teach in the West. We also had 3 lectures of ayurveda: Very young and arrogant teacher (seems to be common in India) who basically presented the 3 types (vata, pita, kappa) as "the worst", "better" and "the best". That is nonsense. He wasn't able to answer any questions, insisted that people used to live 250y ("because it's in our old scriptures!! so it's true!!!") and that the human life gets shorter and shorter.

6) Singing MANTRAS was a nice experience, the teacher was amazing, explaining the words and their meanings, but it was way to much. Mantras at the beginning and end of each class and before meals.

7) FOOD. I'm not a vegetarian. I was well prepared, had all minerals and vitamins, probiotics and active charcoal with me. Hygiene is very good - I didn't get any problems. Eat probiotics and charcoal preventively and you're fine. I liked the taste of the food at the school. BUT. Absolutely inapropriate for Westerners, especially for non-vegetarians, and even more so when you sleep 6h a day and give away so much energy both physically and mentally. The food has basically no protein and no fat. Depending on your metabolical type, the food may turn out to be VERY BAD. From the middle of the course, most of us were going out to eat eggs, cheese or even chicken. You can get eggs in some restaurants nearby, and I highly recommend it. Do bring supplements and protein powder. All the course attendants have lost a lot of weight during the course. Some were excited, but if you're already skinny like me, your muscles are gonna deteriorate and you're gonna become a skeleton. I went from 50kg to 46kg. I ended up eating a lot of protein bars and unhealthy sweets just to get some instant energy in form of pure sugar.

8) ACCOMMODATION was absolutely OK. It’s India and the course is cheap, so don’t expect much luxury, but it was nice and comfortable for 1 month. Hot water working, western toilet, bedsheets nice and clean. I recommend bringing a mosquito net.

9) CLEANLINESS. Well, I’ll be repeating myself, but: it’s India. I believe that for Indian standards, the school is very clean; but as the air is overall dusty there, it’s really dirty by European standards. It’s particularly annoying in the yoga hall.

9) It’s very intense, you sleep max. 6h each day and have almost no time for yourself. It should be stuctured in another way. One has no time to do the laundry, nor to read and self study.

10) At the beginning of the course we were told one shouldn’t miss any classes. But as a result, people being really sick (with diarrhea, menstrual cramps, tired after a sleepless night for whatever reason…) come to all classes and suffer and lay there on the floor, sleeping. For what purpose…?

FACIT:
The main point is whether to do such a course in India at all. It's cheap, sure. It's where yoga developed, and it was nice to experience the culture. But beware that the culture is also reflected in the yoga practice and teaching - and not necessarily in a good way.
