    Indin cooking masterclass
Amazing masterclass in cooking. One of the best things I have done in India in my 10 weeks here. The host/s Amit and others provided an enlightening, fun and informative introduction to the heart if Indian cooking. We loved every moment of the group session.

Masterclass cooking session - just amazing
The masterclass with Neelam was a top experience for us. Firstly from the get go, she put us at ease with her warm, gentle, calm and friendly personality as well as her sense of humor. The homely atmosphere of the session made us feel like we were visiting a friend. Secondly, the structure, organisation and flow of the session was excellent. Neelam explained the basics so well and exposed us to the knowledge and skills required for some foundation dishes. We left feeling that we really had a grasp on some key concepts. We also had a lot of fun making (and eating!!) the delicious dishes we had prepared. The best chai masala we have had in India so far! We can't wait to use our new skills when we get home! A must do for anyone visiting Rishikesh :)

The best cooking class in India
The best cooking class in Rishikesh! Amit and his wife were so nice and professional, telling me about their culture, their family, their religion and Indian cuisine. They introduced every ingredient and its purpose and handed out a recipe handbook as well. Don’t miss it!

    10/10 recommend
We had an amazing night doing a cooking course here. The owners are very friendly and have so much knowledge on Indian cooking techniques. We got to choose which dishes we wanted to cook but moreover : they really explain the foundation behind Indian cooking instead of just teaching you some separate dishes. Would definitely recommend this course and a visit to their herb shop; Jain spice shop.

We have been going to the Jain Spice shop (the owners run this cooking class) here and there while staying in Rishikesh. There we got a flyer for the class. We learned how to make paratha, paneer butter masala, palak paneer, raita(yogurt), 2 chutneys and other things I can't recall.

Our host. Naleem, was very knowledgable, helpful and kind. The class wasn't just a cooking class, there were some Ayurvedic principles mixed in and everything was spoken about in good detail. I have been cooking for years, even working as a professional cook in NYC for a few years, and there were many things Naleem opened my eyes too. Back home we have been using the principles she taught us when making curries.

Whether you are a beginner cook or an expert, you can learn something from here. And yes, you get to eat everything you make!!

I can't say enough good things about Cooking Masala. It was one of the best experiences I've had in India.
My friends and I ended up at the cooking class after stumbling upon Amit's spice shop in Rishikesh. We spoke with him and later went on to book after reading various good reviews online, it really didn't disappoint. The care he and his wife Neelam put into the course is world class. We didn't just learn a couple of curries, we learned the concepts behind Indian cooking and were given the skills and base to create dozens of different dishes. We spend around four hours with them and they were even kind enough to extend the menu to include chapati when someone asked. We of course got to eat the food at the end and it was one of the best meals we've had.
A real highlight for me was learning how to make authentic chai. We took a break in the middle of the class to drink it and talk to Amit about his life and the development of Cooking Masala.
I'd recommend coming to the class with a few favourite dishes that you would like to know more about - you won't cook them last minute but Amit will share his knowledge and you'll be in a better position to both cook them yourself and know what to look for in restaurants. Biryani was a good one to ask about!
The cherry on top for me was Amit and Neelam being able to send a parcel of spices home to my family in Scotland. My mum loves to cook Indian food and would have adored the class. I picked out a number of spice blends and an apron made by Neelam herself, they parcelled it all up and sent it all the way to Scotland. Them doing it for me took away all the stress and was very worth the money.
If you are considering a cooking class all I can say is book this one. The standard is sky high and you will not be disappointed.

I'm writing this while sipping on my homemade Masala Tea...Where do I start?!

This was certainly the highlight of my short stay in Rishikesh. I stumbled upon Jain spice shop and couldn't decide which tea or spice to buy so I returned the next day. I believe this was luck because the second visit gave me the chance to speak to the owner, who told me about their cooking classes. I decided to stay an extra day to attend the class, and I am so glad I did!

I went to the class alone but met a group of lovely fellow travellers and yogis on arrival. The owners are so welcoming, everything was organised but relaxed and allowed us plenty of time to stop and start to ask questions and get involved.

The food was INCREDIBLE! I was so impressed by how much we made, even having time to make the famous masala tea and sit down for a short break to enjoy it with a biscuit. I left the class with a belly full of glorious food and with a bag of spices, and of course I couldn't resist purchasing robes from the owners lovely clothing shop beside the kitchen.

I could have stayed all afternoon and asked many more questions... I can't recommend this enough if you want an authentic, informative, enjoyable and memorable Indian cooking experience!
