A quiet holy place to visit near Rishikesh.
By the banks of Ganges, its a great experience to trek through the rocks and touch the cold water.

One of the peaceful place to meditate and enjoy the calmness. We took a rented bike and travelled from Rishikesh to Vashisht Gufa. We have 2 caves one is Vashisht Gufa and the other one name Arundati Gufa on the name of his wife.

I thouroughly enjoyed this place along with my cousin. we reached here at 1.30 PM and the temple was closed. It remains closed from 1 pm to 3 pm. One of the occupant offered us food, and we accepted the offer, since we were super hungry. Not only food, the Guruji also gave us Rs.10 Dakshina, which was a surprise. I have kept the note with me as a souvenir.
The area is very peaceful in the bank of the river Ganga. We could not spend much time as the weather was very hot. We want to return here again and spend some more time in the lap of nature.

We spent good 2 hours here. What a place! The Gufa is strictly for people who want to meditate, not for photography. For people who meditate, it's heaven and you'll realise it in Arundhati cave as well as Vashishta Gufa.

As the name suggest its a sage Gufa, so expect the lifestyle of a tapasvi Saptrishi sage who is in deep meditation. Its one of the most calming and positive vibes place in Rishikesh. If you are looking for a normal temple with lot of people and shops around, you avoid this place, however if you are looking for calming place where you can silently meditate, this place is for you. Its literally in a mountain, with only the diya light in the cave. If you enter from the bright sun in first instance you will find it dark, let your eyes adjust to the darkness and you will find a shivlinga and many people meditating here. The vibrations are very good.
You will need to take a taxi or private vehicle to this place, than climb down to the entrance of gufa next to ganga river.

The real city is rishikesh way past both bridges by the bus stop. Near railway road and many shops . this is the time where the locals live. They also work in this area. But the ram jhula tapovan laxman Jhula areas are not near this railway road area. So the cave is out of town on way out of town heading away up .or heading into town before you get to tapovan. Depends which direction.

The town of Rishikesh is near the bus stop at railway road. This is near the marketplace and the area where the locals live. The Vashistha Cave is headed up river past this area, past the Ram Jhlua Bridge, past Laxman Jhula. So you head out of town near Tapovan. Tapovan and Laxman Jhula are more of the Yoga and tourist area. It is not the Area of Main Rishikesh town.

Is it down the road and one has to go down and climb up again and is it for elderly people easily reachable?

For Gufa, climbing down and way up is not for elderly. And there is no other way. Best to avoid it for elderly and persons with walking/climbing problems.
Banks of Ganga requires further walking down,

Best way is to take a taxi. We actually hired a full day car for haridwar and attractions in Rishikesh.

Thanks Sundar S & Akr - I got to meet Swami ji - video not allowed. Had a chance to be in the Gufa for half an hour in silence and another half an hour when people were chanting om namo shivai....
Life time experience of silence. There is tremendous energy there in the Gufa, lot of peace observed.
For readers of this review - Gufa is closed for 2 hours in afternoon 1 to 3 pm. If planning visit - keep that in mind..
thanks
