This is one of the major Shiva temples in India, marking the place where Shiva saved creation by drinking the poison churned from the primal ocean. It is a powerful temple, filled with Shiva-shakti. The drive to the temple travels through beautiful wooded areas; there are reportedly elephants in the forest, though we were not fortunate enough to spot any.

I went during off season and there was hardly any crowd. But I believe when it's crowded, it gets really crowded. And I am not a crowd person

It is crowded but you leave feeling blessed and peaceful. Road is bit bumpy. There are no washrooms nearby.

The temple is located at a height of round 1300 meters, so you have to go through ghats. The drive from Rishikesh to temple is all about scenic views. The temple remains crowded most of the times, still you feel that peace of mind. You will have to wait in queue for around 30 min to an hour depending on... More

I stayed at Ganga Kinare and they arranged a car for 2100/-. It is about 32 kms. Very scenic drive...worth it. The temple is crowded all the time...but it wont take more than 30 mints in Que. It is on a mountain...so the drive is a climb.. Best to go in the morning and in good weather.

Must visit for Lord Shiva devotees.. located on a mountain One has to take the winding ghat roads,, it's a beautiful drive with waterfalls Enroute, natural climate, fresh air & scenic nature. One can buy rudraksha but only in its fruit form to avoid being cheated by local shopkeepers there. It's located around 20 kms from Rishikesh

This place is around 35 kms from Rishikesh. the drive is good, but requires an experienced driver for this. The best time to visit on a weekend is Saturday, as we did not get any rush and had blissful darshans. Very peaceful place. Ideally should take a cab from the local (good) operators or through your hotel. It closes at... More
