So - you're driving along the highway in Mongolia, round a corner (not too many of those around) and this stoking great statue looms at you! It's slightly bonkers but a great place - being able to climb up into the horse's head is great...More

Visited quickly as this was a long distance away from Hotel and we had more plans for the same day. Very interesting History and the internal museum was very well laid out to order.

If you find yourself in Baotou, this is a must-see. Ornate and impressive; lots of interesting historical context. The exhibit detailing Ghengis Khan's "punitive expeditions" is pretty interesting.

Although a couple of hours out of Baotou it is well worth making the effort to visit. It is outstanding with a highlight being the Mongolian Horsemen providing demonstrations of their art.
