We visited so many years ago, when the DuPont expansion was still there and the house was a pinkish color - not attractive! Now, they have removed all the DuPont rooms (but kept some of them in the visitor's center so you can still see...More

Gorgeous place that is still in the process of restoration...and an experience which will add to your experience of our Nation's History. Bring good walking shoes...a lovely and worthwhile stop.

Just up from Monticello is James Madison's Montpilier. He was our 4th President and wrote our Bill of Rights. This is a more laid back tour and located in some beautiful country. Well worth the short trip up after visiting Monticello.

A great place to learn about our fourth president. Gave a great perspective of juxtaposition between the writer of the Bill of Rights and slavery.

Thank you for your query. Dogs on leashes are welcome at Montpelier. We have 8+ miles of walking trails that you and your pet can enjoy. However, only service dogs are allowed in the House.
