To Honor Veterans

This is a nice monument to honor Lynchburg veterans of various wars. There are many steps to climb between the monuments.

The steps go up, up, up, up....... Loved the way each landing honored a different war and the veterans of that war. Chuch midway up is beautiful.

We were exploring Lynchburg on a cold January night and decided to check out the monument. There are over 130 steps, and at each landing is a different memorial to those who have served in different wars. Very informative, and a great memorial, with all conflicts represented in one place.

Certainly unexpected to find this historic and architecturally-interesting street in Lynchburg atop a dramatic stairway. Many Victorian and ante-bellum houses, some belonging to famous persons, and 19th century stone churches on every other block.

Great for history buffs and those interested in the civil war era. My family enjoyed the visit. It would be nice to have a guide though.

For history buffs, Lynchburg is a hidden gem! It was virtually untouched by ravaging federal forces during the War between the States and as a result was poised to "boom" at the war's ending. Court house Hill is a great place to start a trip into this history. The Lynchburg Museum, housed in the exquisite old courthouse, the buildings up... More

Main, Court and Church Streets in downtown Lynchburg have so much history. Fortunately, there are periodic plaques or signs that explain the local history, especially the Civil War era. Downtown improvements continue, making this city a nice place to visit, but there are lots of hills to climb.

We enjoyed the beautiful architecture of the surrounding buildings, memorials as you go up the steps and the museum at the top.
