The staff were so very personable and well versed on the both the details of the building of the house and estate and the fascinating history of the families who lived there. THis all made our first visit to the Oatlands very enjoyable. Look forward to another visit so we can tour the gardens and have lunch on the picnic... More

A last minute plan when entertaining my Australian sister. What a beautiful and historically significant property. Our guide was so generous with her love for and knowledge of past owners and their considerable contributions to this country. The house is magnificent and the terraced gardens so appealing.

My friend and I stopped by for a visit while in Leesburg, what a lovely surprise! The grounds for nearly deserted the day we visited, and we had a tour to ourselves! Doug, Our tour guide clearly loved the house and the history. It is a wonderful old home, and with only two owners, the home is nearly as it... More

Historic home with origins in the late 1700s, many original interior details from the early 1800s (including the wall treatments -- not painted over!). Wonderful to find a place that hasn't been too restored. Interesting history of the wealthiest man in the Colonies, his descendants, and various families that owned the house, including their political connections. Some fascinating furnishings and... If you have friends in from out of town that like history and the countryside this is a nice place to visit! There are tours of the house and grounds with guides that provide the historical background and during spring, summer or early fall would be the best time to visit.

I live very close to the Oatlands. We have taken family here for tours Spring, Summer and Winter. It's especially lovely when it's decorated for Christmas and they have candlelight tours. No matter when we've gone, our guests thought the visit very worthwhile. The country setting beautiful and at the right time you may get a glimpse of deer and... More

You get to see inside the house, walk the garden, see all the flowers, the rock wall, the rock steps, and many large plants and trees. Best to do when it is not too out so you can enjoy the walk with your special someone.

Thoroughly enjoyed the historic "ghost tour" which was a change from a daytime visit at Oatlands. Both enjoyable but if you can book the ghost tour, it's very enjoyable
