Excellent Wine and Very Good Assortment for Tasting in a Beautiful Setting
Barren Ridge Vineyards are a few miles off Interstate 64 in the Fishersville VA area.It is not too far from Charlottesville VA and a great place to visit if you like excellent wine at a reasonable price and want to picnic. We visited there recently and were very happy with our experience. Our main interest was to try their wine tasting and to buy some wine if they were as good as they usually are. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and they were not terribly busy but the two picnic tables in front of the tasting location were being used by two families when we arrived. The tasting building is very nicely laid out and they have at least two to three attendants there to assist in the wine tasting if that your reason for stopping by which it was for us. We tried their 8 wine tastings for 8 Dollars and tried mostly Red Wines we have purchased there before. The 2018 vintage was exceptional and we purchased two bottles of the Barren Ridge Red Barren wine which is a red blend and the one bottle of the 2016 Merlot which was also exceptional. These wines are rated at 3.9 to 4.0 by many wine experts and are reasonably priced in a very pretty area as the wine tasting area is right next to the Vineyard. So drop by and give the tasting a try.Note the White wines were very good and well rated but we tend to choose reds so give the white wines a try.

    Great wine and views
Really enjoyed our jaunt out to Barren Ridge after driving through the lower part of Shenandoah National Park. They have a great socially-distanced outdoor space to enjoy the wine and the views. We had the wine flight ($16), which rotates weekly, and really enjoyed several of the wines. Angela gave us a nice overview of the wines on this week's flight and their tasting notes, which was great since wineries have had to stop traditional guided tastings due to COVID. We brought our own cheese and bread, and had a delightful afternoon, walking away with a couple of bottles

    Tinkling Spring - Terrific Wine!
My wife and I had a fantastic flight of wine, followed by a bottle, at Barren Ridge Vineyards. We were very fortunate to meet Angela and Rob, the owners of the establishment. We shared some somewhat overlapping experiences we have each had in Europe. Rob talked to us about the history of the area and vineyard, as well as how the local weather/soil contributes to the vineyard's wines. Both Rob and Angela signed my 2019 edition of 'Hidden Gems' wineries in America. This was truly an exceptional experience! The Tinkling Spring was particularly excellent - we enjoyed a bottle onsite and obtained one to take home. This is a phenomenal winery - definitely stop by!

Been chatting with lots of people before I had a chance to taste anything. Started with their Cab franc. It was OK. The merlot was a little better than other but still pretty dry for me. The tourist changed throughout the tasting. It was just ok at first but got better as I tasted it. Finally the meritage. I had several cab franc notes in the middle but the petit verdot was more prevalent in the finish. I kind of liked it.

Looking for wineries in the Shenandoah Valley? You have to try Barren Ridge! A great location with an amazing view. Lots of wines to choose from. We tried a flight each of White, Red and Sweet. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their wines and how they are produced. Highly recommended.

We like to visit vineyards when we travel, have a tasteing flight, enjoy the ambiance, take some bottles home if we like the flavor.

This vineyard has the advantage of a patio with an exceptional vista of the Blue Ridge Mountains as you look over their vineyard,

We were favored with great weather, so we took our two tasting flights to the outdoors and got the full experience. I will note that all of their wines are quite dry--a little too dry and harsh for my tastes in general, but that's a matter of taste, otherrs prefer that style. We did come away with a couple of bottles of their Merlot and their Red Barren blend, the two with the gentelest finish and fruity range.

Then on to the next tasting flights.

Very nice vineyard with some great wines. The Red Barren was really surprising - a dry red that you should drink cold?? Who knew that existed? The Tinkling Spring white was also quite good.

Great spot near Staunton, Virginia. They had a musician while we visited sipping a flight of wine in the shade.

Didn’t want a whole flight just wanted to taste but they weren’t serving them. Too bad. Left without knowing if the wines were good or not. Sorry.

What a gem we found when we came to Barren Ridge. It’s a beautiful spot, spotless clean, overlooks the vineyard, outdoor seating, massive stone fireplace, very friendly staff, even met the owners wife who shared the history and made us feel right at home. We purchased a bottle of merlot, a locally made cheese ball, a fresh locally made baguette, and decided to bring home 2 more bottles. It was delicious. Thank you for a lovely evening, what a beautiful spot to enjoy the full moon.
