We needed a place on the western edge of Virginia to meet up with our Richmond family who had a 3 day weekend. We drove across 4 states to get there...and were not disappointed. Even though it was winter - the park was still lovely. The hikes were breath-taking. And the ca. 1930s CCC cabins were a charming place to... More

As far as parks go, you cannot go wrong with any Virginia State Park. Douthat State Park is no exception. Excellent facilities, excellent personnel, and an excellent time overall. This is a fantastic place for family and friends.

We stayed 2 weeks in one of the cabins built ca. 1930 by the Civilian Construction Corp. Quaint and rustic, it was in need of a few repairs and updates, but an enjoyable stay no less. The chinking needed repairs, the heav wooden doors were missing hardware which meant we couldn't operate the latch mechanisms, and the bathroom is in... More

Great state park with a lake for swimming, fishing, or boating. 3 campgrounds with all types of campsites from tents to large rig motor homes. Water and electric at some sites. I would give it 5 stars but it's a bit expensive ($48 w/reservation) for a public ccampground

I like to go to Douthat State Park and have lunch and a glass of wine on the deck. It's fun to sit outside and hear the boats in the water. It's very peaceful and quiet. Afterwards, I will walk some of the trails nearby to the dam or over to the beach and watch the swimmers. On occasion, my... More

I went camping at Douthat State Park in late August with my two teenage kids. We chose the campsite by the lake, with no electric hookups but amazing breakfast views. The campsite was packed on the weekend but cleared up and was quiet on Sunday night. Restrooms are old but maintained well and cleaned regularly. There is a fish cleaning... More

We had a great day at this park. The weather was perfect and we had a relaxing time on the mountain lake. There is plenty to do, like camping, hiking, cookouts, fishing, lake cruising, and much more. The workers here are very helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the day trip and cruising the lake. Great for young kids to learn... More

Rented a ccc cabin and loved every minute. Hiking is a must do if you go to Douthat, the view from above is worth the sweat. Rent something to get yourself out on the water if you don't have a kayak or canoe or jon boat, it is a lovely place, and you can hear yourself breathe. Lakeside restaurant is... More

We stayed in tents at the White Oak campground for three nights. Bathroom was cleaned regularly and the campsites were large, but ground a little hard for tents. Hiking trails well maintained. We took the one that starts at campground and there was great overlook of the lake. Blue suck falls was disappointing as it was too dry, but the... More
