Pros - Visitor Center restrooms were spotless. Trails, grounds, and parking lots were maintained well. Some trails are wheelchair and stroller friendly. Great views of the water. Right off of a major road (US 58). Cons - None.

This park is great for boaters , picnics, and those who enjoy cabins. I'm writing as a hiker. Most of this area of va and Nc are pretty flat. However this has some unique areas to walk around Kerr lake. We took the pan handle loop trail . It had plenty of markers but distance was often unknown because length... More

I am glad you enjoyed hiking at Occoneecchee State Park. Thank you for taking time to complete a review to let potential visitors know about the trails. We will look at the trail mileage markers. Our trail systems tend to have a variety of spurs that can make mileage calculations challenging for hikers, More

We decided to hike around the park in the early afternoon. The tree cover kept the park very cool for the time of day and the pathways were well maintained making it an easy 'hike'. We did not see all of the park since we are not as outdoorsy as most are. We appreciate the beauty of the park but... More

Occoneechee Park and Buggs Island Lake are a little known treat in Southside, Virginia. 50,000 acres of freshwater lake, with record size catfish, and stripers, crappie, and chain pickerel abound. The park has beautiful cabins on the lake. Clarksville, Virginia is the only town in Southside built on the lake, just across the bridge from Occoneechee Park. There are several... More

Immaculate and spacious cabins for a great price. Walking trails, boat rentals nearby. Go in to the town of Clarksville for some shopping and dining.

Wonderful trails to walk, also to ride your horse. Right on Kerr Lake, great fishing. There are cabins to rent with terrific views. Very clean and great for kids. Lots of history re: Occoneechee indians.

My buddy booked our family and his a camping trip here so that both our families could go fishing together. We're from NC and they are living in VA. Since Kerr lake borders both states we could legally fish together at this camp ground without having to buy out-of-state licenses. Every one had a good time. Yes in the middle... More

Located on Buggs Island Lake this is a great park for a water enthusiast. There is plenty of lake for fishing, water sports and just cruising on a pontoon boat. There is no swimming area although you can swim in the lake as we did from shoreline or kayak. The campground is well shaded to provide relief from the daily... More
