The Provo Pioneer Village is a wonderful gem about the historic pioneer heritage of Provo and Utah in general. It has several restored pioneer homes and several other pioneer buildings (like a general store, schoolhouse, etc.). The Village is only open a few hours a day in the summer (check the website), but it's free to get in and there are volunteers in pioneer dress that will give you a tour of the Village, sharing tidbits about the buildings and pioneer life. I recommend the tour (about 1 hour, depending on who is giving it), but you can also wander about freely by yourself (in which case I recommend 30 minutes). There are pioneer games for the kids at the schoolhouse, including stilts and climbing bears. There is a small store that sells candy and pioneer toys. If you're lucky, the volunteer blacksmith will be at work in the smithy! I definitely recommend the Village to anybody: families, history buffs, tourists, Provo residents, and anyone else interested.

This is a nice little pioneer village. It is in full swing during the week of the 24th of July. The 24th of July is a state holiday where Utah celebrates it's Pioneer Day. There are always people at every location in the village giving demonstrations of what life was like in the pioneer days. My favorite place to visit is always the black smith's work shop.

Free admission, helpful volunteers in pioneer garb, lots of interesting things to see. Our 2 year old loved the bear skin rug and 8 year old got a chance to try out the stilts and hoops that 19th century kiddos used as toys. Fun!

I have driven past the Provo Pioneer Village forever and never realized what what there. The village may be small but it is a wonderful representation of the early settlers to Utah Valley. There are a few homes, a school, general store, blacksmith shop on site, Volunteers, all in period clothing, are also on site to answer any questions you may have. They even have a fun item search for kids. I love living history!

From the 1940s to now this has been my best Park. We took a granddaughter to enjoy Pioneer Day fun and had a blast.

I had 5 kids with me ranging from 11 to 1, and all of them except the baby said it was their favorite thing we have done all summer! The staff (or volunteers) were so great with their tour, teaching the kids, and having patience with all of their questions. The kids loved dressing up, seeing how the pioneer way of life was, and they LOVED the school house with the toys.

You get a glimpse of mid-nineteenth century life in Provo. Several original buildings have been brought together on a small plot of land. There are costumed interpreters on site to bring history to life.
Operating hours are strange: 4-7 pm. Admittance is free, a donation appreciated.

Because of limited volunteers to staff the site, hours are very limited (e.g., only 4-7pm on the Tuesday we visited). Tour could be improved if volunteers were more knowledgeable of even the most basic information and displays. Instead, recommend visiting the much more expansive This is the Place Heritage Park in Salt Lake City, which is much better staffed by informative volunteers including parent/child families.

Free. Very fun for kid and adult. Many Games, stories, demonstrations led by period dressed pioneer family members. Quite amazing and inviting for families.

Games are guided by re-enactors. Include hoop throw/catch, potato sack, barrel hoop roll, dizzy lizzy., and gardening, and find the object.

Stories vary from descriptions of houses store, building techniques, milling, bible stories for children, pioneer stories. , schooling, transportation and merchants. If you give advanced notice, a story time can be arranged on a particular subject.

Demonstrations range from livery, blacksmith, wheel making, wagon making, ox shoeing (they have oldest ox holder in the west) , milling, farming, general store, school lessons. Activities vary by day depending on which historical re-enactors are on site that dy. For example the blacksmith is not present Friday, only wed, Th, Sat, however he is very experienced and does a spot on demonstration.

Over all, the range of 1850 log homes and an adobe are amazing actual restorations. Somehow they found and brought these cabins here in the 1930's and restored them fairly accurately-very very unusual. I just was at LMU in Kentucky at the Lincoln Presidential Library, where they have the boyhood cabin of abe lincoln from the same period, but only one cabin, which was not accurately restored. Here there are 8 furnished cabins restored, from that period. Also an adobe. house. The period furnishings are not in cases, but out on open display in these restored cabins. In s=addition there are family members of the original pioneers of Provo giving explanations, albeit slightly unvarnished.. Unique.

This is a must do event for anyone passing through. It is probable less than half of the local residents have spent much time at the city park.
