I have to admit that I didn't take this hike seriously enough or plan properly for it and that definitely affected my enjoyment of this beautiful location. I planned this as a half day trip from Kanab, and was due back in the early afternoon....More

Check with BLM on road and trail conditions and check forecast and radar before departing. Rules of thumb are no more than 10 to 20% chance of rain or you should make other plans. Check for recent rainfall as well, because the water might still...More

Spectacular colors and sinuous passages make this a great day trip from Kanab. November turned out to be a great time to go as the chances of rain were low, the temperature was cool, and it wasn't too crowded.

Well worth the drive (one hour from Kanab, easy well maintained gravel road) and de-scrambling the round block barring the slot canyon. Better be a party of two to help each other. It takes 25 minutes to hike to the slot portion. After Wire Pass,...More

A long and open walk into and out before you reach the slot. This long walk is horrendous and it seems never ending but the reward is great. The slot seems short but it opens to buckskin gulch on both sides. The slot had a...More

Wire Pass trail head is the starting point for those with permits to see North Coyote Buttes (The Wave) and the start of Buckskin Gulch. There's a decent size parking lot along with two fairly well maintained outhouses. Once you get off the highway and...More

If anyone gives this hike lower than a 4 star it's because they did zero homework and tried to take young kids with them. If you turn this hike into the 47 miler (Wire Pass to Lees Ferry), this is not for kids. Even the...More

We opted to hike Wire Pass over Antelope Canyon and were happy with the decision. It ended up being a beautiful, easy hike. Off-roading is required to get to the trailhead. When we arrived, a park ranger greeted us and gave us an overview of...More

The hike starts out on a wide dirt, sand and rock path. Once you get to the pass, it is beautiful, and relatively shaded and cool. There is a 10 foot drop at one point. Before the drop, you can bypass it by going to...More

Gorgeous and Fun adventure! No one in your way. Take your own water and food. Easy, flat walking but be prepared for mud and or dust. Cool oasis in the summer.

We did this hike with a dog, but there were 3 of us total and we needed to hoist the dog up and down the drop ourselves. I'd highly recommend taking the detour if you are by yourself. The drop varies depending on the rain... More
