I love this statue near the Catholic Church in helper. It's a must see. Big John is huge and so neat for the kids to see. Coal mining is such a huge part of Helper's history. Definitely a must see.

It's a statue of a giant miner. If you read the plaque, you can get a better idea of the history. Obviously mining is a big deal around here but that's about it. They wanted something to attract tourists so they built a statue....
