This is hot in the summer and the footing includes soft sand as well as big steps up the rocks, so be warned. However, the scenery is fabulous. The round trip is about 5.5 miles with no long steep climbs.

My wife, sister in law and I made the hike to Calf Creek Falls on my 30th birthday. While the hike was over 100* and the terrian rough, the breathtaking views of the falls made it all worth it. The water was sooo cold and...More

Hike takes about 3 hours (round trip). This is one of those MUST hikes in the Escalante area. Recommend hiking earlier or later in the day - makes for a more acceptable mix of sun and shade. Be sure to pack your camera, extra water,...More

The end of this hike is worth the three mile trek. Beautiful cool waterfall and swimming area. We did this on an extremely hot day and I would recommend that you go either early morning or wait until late day. The hike does not have...More

Amazing (mostly flat) 6 mile round trip hike. We took out 2 year old in the back pack and made it to the falls in 1.5 hours (we took our time) Dog friendly trail. Make sure you start early or late as it gets crowded...More

If you have limited time in this National Monument, do this hike! It's a great introduction to the area; if you start early in the morning or do it later in the afternoon/evening, you will be mostly shaded from the sun. Doing this hike in...More

Famous last words indeed. We were mis-informed that this trek would be approximately 3.5 miles round trip. It ended up being more like 7 miles round trip. Well worth it though. I was a hot June day and there are lots of windy, sandy paths....More

The hike to the falls is mostly flat as it follows a creek. In many areas the trail is loose sand. There are areas of shade but depending on the time of day, this could be a very hot hike. The falls and the sandy...More

This is a long hot trail in the summer, recommend umbrella and lots of water. The roughly 3 mile in and 3 mile out is 75% on deep sandy trail, with very spotty shade. That said this will always be a memorable hike as the...More

There are 14 campsites right there. Looks like you can write, call or email to inquire about the site. Not sure if they take reservations, or if it's first-come, first-serve. Hope this helps! Escalante Field Station PO Box... More
