I've been to many courthouses across the country, and this is by far one of the most beautiful ones. Across the street is a pretty little park, and there are shops around the courthouse to check out. We were there on a Saturday, so we couldn't go inside, but the outside was simply breathtaking. Be sure to take a stroll through town and see the other historic buildings as well.

What a gorgeous courthouse. Lots of informative historical markers giving lots of educational insite to the area. Not exactly on the square, but offset and across the street fron the town park where events are held. Beautiful old buildings that have been restored. Highly recommend seeing the old historical town.

This 1890 courthouse is downtown Victoria, directly across the street from a lovely town park. While the courthouse itself is worthy of a stop if you like historic buildings, there are lots of historic buildings nearby. And near is a wonderful mural of old buildings.

A majestic 19th century courthouse that is connected to the modern-day courthouse. I was surprised to find that it was not the centerpiece of a town square. There's a nice little park across the street. You can go in but they do not offer tours which is a shame.

Sadly so many of the old grand courthouses of so many counties in America have been knocked down and replaced with ugly buildings that look like a box of Corn Flakes or an electric razor! Thankfully the one in Victoria, Texas was saved and restored and is still a working facility.
The completely restored 1892 Victoria County Courthouse stands as a monument, not only to the craftsmanship of a bygone era, but also of a bustling community’s ability to work together toward a common goal. The building had fallen to disrepair and had been subject to many additions that did not suit the historical aspects of the original structure.
To keep costs down inmates from the nearby TXDOC unit voluntarily worked and helped restore the structure and many obtained jobs with local contractors after they were released which was a further unexpected positive result of the restoration.
The courthouse is very beautiful to visit and see from the outside and from De Leon Park across the street but you can enter via the main entrance of the newer courthouse and ask the security staff if it is alright to go into the old courthouse. Most likely they will say yes as when I went and I enjoyed seeing first hand the restored craftsmanship of a bygone era. Beautiful woodwork, stairways, railings and newel posts and new carpet that keeps to the period of the structure. The old open atrium that once provided ventillation before the days of air conditioning has been enclosed with a glass roof and an elevator has been installed to make it easier to get up to the upper floors and be ADA compliant. If you are lucky enough to go when court rooms are not in session and if the doors to the court are left open you are allowed to go in and see many historical photographs, documents and old maps dating back to the Civil War.

I was visiting the town as a tourist on 12-4-14 and this was on the list of things to do. As mentioned in a prior review, I asked the security at the door if I could take a peep inside. The said that court was not going on and that I could go to the 2nd floor to see the courtroom. It is beautifully restored! The tile floors and courtyard area were my favorite picture opportunities. The items on display that were found during restoration adds a great touch to the visit.

I was overjoyed to walk the halls of this old historical building. Its mind tigling to walk the halls where old famous and non famous settlers of the 19th Century walked. Lots of history here. Courtrooms are still entact that were the arenas of condemning notorious cattle rustlers, bootlegggers and gunslingers of the 1840's.

Every small Texan town seems to have one of these amazing 19th century piles of stone. This one is certainly a handsome example of its kind and there are one or two interesting things to see in the square in front of it. Lots of flags - seems to be a Texan thing - but the most interesting element was 'the Last Stand', a memorial to the confederacy. I wonder how long before the politically correct will object?

If you love architecture and Texas Historic County Courthouses, this grand dame is not to be missed. Besides the intricate architecture and the care taken to preserve the glory of this masterpiece, the square around the courthouse is well maintained and preserved.
To enter the 1892 courthouse, you have to jgo into the ugly 1967 new courthouse, but it is all good. You get your reward when you step into the old building.
We visited on a weekday and there was ample parking on side streets near the courthouse.
