Well, we went to the historic district and drove the Azalea Trail. A bit surprised to report that we saw about 4 bushes. Maybe the storm last night knocked them all out but must admit it was not what we expected to see.

I had a hard time figuring out just where to go and where to drive. Would be nice if they had some sort of driving cheat sheet that would tell you about streets and houses etc. in a general way. I had a hard time figuring out where exactly the area was etc.

If you love beautifully landscaped residences, you will definitely enjoy visiting the gorgeous homes in the Azalea Residential Historic District. The azaleas are breath-taking and in peak bloom right now, several weeks early this year. The trails are very well marked with street sign.

My husband and I live in the Azalea District. We are thrilled with the beautiful gardens and historical homes every day! After 10 years we still drive the brick streets and marvel at our good fortune

We were too late to catch the flowers we'd heard so much about, but the unique architecture and beautiful homes in the district were still beautiful, even without them. I had no idea how many lovely historic homes were in Tyler, and the drive through the Azalea District is a great way to see a lot of them. We didn't spend too much time there, but the brick streets, beautiful homes, and lush trees are definitely worth returning to Tyler to explore.

The azaleas bloomed early this year and when we arrived - a week before the festival was to begin - the azaleas were already dying. But it was still a wonderful visit. We had stopped at the visitor's bureau and they suggested we stop at 212 West Dobbs - and we are so glad that we did. The husband and wife there (Guy and Joan Pyron) were very gracious and we were invited to walk through their beautiful yard and take as many pictures as we wanted to. It was such a wonderful stop and I am so grateful to the Pyron's for their generosity. I'm hoping those who have planned in advance to attend the festival aren't overly disappointed with the lack of live Azaleas!

During a weekend visit to Tyler I discovered the city's Azalea and Brick Streets neighborhoods. Given our unusually warm weather the azaleas were a riot of colors! I grew up in Houston and do not recall azaleas in such abundance or blooms. Each block brought a new discovery of colors and plantings. I understand why the city hosts an Azalea Festival every spring. If your travels bring you to Tyler it's definitely worth getting off the highway to enjoy the colors of spring.

Tyler, Tx. is home to some of the most beautiful old homes and beautifully landscaped yards. If you want to see an amazing display of azaleas and spring flowers, come to the Azalea Trails, that are held in March each year. There are many authentic brick streets that crisscross the Azalea District. So many of the old homes date back to the early 20th century and their architecture is so interesting.

Out trip was timed perfectly to see this years Azaleas in full bloom. Everywhere you looked in the Azalea Residential District the colors were vivid. During the Azalea Festival, the area is packed with visitors, but for a few days before and after the festival, you can walk through the neighborhood without a crowd. Amazing photo opportunities everywhere.
Recommend contacting the Tyler visitor's bureau to see when the Azalea's are expected to be their fullest. The Dogwood trees are also blooming now.

This area is absolutely gorgeous in the spring during the Azalea Festival. The festival trails usually last about two weeks. One house in particular has a back yard full of azaleas as well as many other spring plants. There are signs directing you to the trails.
