An impromptu afternoon winery hopping adventure and the suggestion of the owner of the previous winery landed us at Westcave Cellars. The sangiovese was awesome as was the cheese plate we ordered to accompany our wine. We thought it was well worth the drive!

The drive to Westcave was so beautiful. The grounds are very enjoyable with vineyards you can walk through. Nice sitting are outside weather permitting. The wines were very good, bought a bottle of the Estate Vermentino (grapes only from their vineyard) and the Sweet red, both very tasty. Very knowledgeable staff.

This place is a treasure. They have a nice selection of wines from their estate and purchased grapes. Tastings are $15 and free if you buy 3 (as I recall) bottles. They often have live music. Bring a picnic lunch or get their cheese plate and have a seat at an outdoor table. There is just nothing like sitting under... More

Nice friendly family winery. We met and were served by the owner. Very personable. Like having a friend in the wine business. Good reasonably priced wine.

What a great drive from Austin! I'd never been this far on Hamilton Pool Road, and it's worth it just to make the drive to the winery. On the Sunday we visited, they were offering DELICIOUS authentic Texas, pit-smoked barbecue for sale on their grounds and had live music to entertain. It was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere outdoors, and I... More

West cave is a wonderful little winery near Austin as long as the Pedernales is not flooding. Then it is a wonderful winery near Johnson City 😀. Allen and Margaret are passionate about their wine and their guests! The reds are coming into their own and the whites have always been fantastic. Plus they are reasonable.

Thank you for the wonderful review! The one-lane bridge across the Pedernales can be a problem when it rains, but it is a gorgeous drive on all other days. Once at Westcave, though, we do our best to treat you like an honored guest in our home. We hope you will visit again this fall. Allan is bottling all the... More

We visited late in the day and wanted to do a tasting and have a class of wine. We did enjoy the wines, especially the Estate Syrah. However, the staff was more focused on drinking their own wine than assisting us with the tasting. Additionally, there was one other gentleman doing a tasting at the same time really trying to... The 3 of us drove through beautiful hill country roads to this gem of a winery growing their own grapes, more each year, to enjoy wonderful wines and delightful people. This was a trip well worth the time. We will be back.

We did have a fantastic time visiting this winery. Very Rustic Vineyards with haystacks and great area to sit outside and dream the day away. The staff was knowledgeable and oh so friend with Texas charm. However the wine was just average. It was good but not exceptional.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your March visit. Westcave is one of the few Hill Country vineyards where you are encouraged to roam. As you noted, we spend a lot of time educating the staff so they can share specific information about the wines and stories. Our wines are quite different in that we... More
