This was one of the more enjoyable history museums I have been too. It is located in a 19th century hotel that had 50 rooms so it must of been quite a site in the late 1800's. Each room has a different historical theme and it was very interesting. Shows where there were gunfights in the saloon and where men... More

A large museum with extensive exhibits detailing everything about the West, but particularly focusing on Pecos history (e.g. Pecos fire fighters, cowboys, teachers, statesmen, etc.) The setting - a three-story historic hotel - is as interesting as the artifacts inside. The exhibits are dated and showing their age (literally, with peeling paper and dust). However, if you can look aside... More

So glad I stopped to see the Judge Roy Bean house. Nice park in front perfect if traveling with a dog. The museum looked interesting, but not pet friendly and too hot to leave dog in car so I bypassed going inside. There are several signs that detail some of the history if you cannot go in. It's a nice... More

The West of the Pecos Museum is actually the historic Orient Hotel. As the story goes, this hotel was once the premier hotel of West Texas. With its early 19th century looks, I'm sure she was a beauty in her day. Not only does it have original memorabilia and artifacts from an era long ago, but it connects to the... More

This was a wonderful spur of the moment side trip. This is sooooooooooo interesting. I felt like I had grown up in this little town by the time I left their museum. Terrific for Texas history fans, early rodeo fans, and those interested in life in West Texas. Try a west Texas cantalope too. Staff so helpful.

This museum has it all! The staff are knowledgable and friendly. Exhibits range from bullet holes in the original saloon to community celebrations. The history of the building itself is worth the stop inside. It's a great place for children too!

1st thing the mapped location is way wrong. West of business 20 on 285 about 2 blocks on the left. Has a lot ab I it the history of Pecos. Daughter is a history buff and likes to learn about the past. Has individual rooms (old 3 story hotel) set up with displays. Spent about an hour checking out all... More

If you are interested in what country life was like in Texas back in time this place is neat. Some of the attractions are offbeat but there is so much rich history and heritage of Texas. Neat that Pecos held the first rodeo. Cool to do with teenagers, sparks a lot of conversation.
