This place is magical close to town but you feel like you are in the middle of the forrest. I love to run or walk the trails and look for birds.

This is a great place to stop off for a nice walk in the woods right in the middle of town. There are red shouldered hawks nesting in the park and you can hear them calling. No entrance fee for a lovely demonstration of native plants from the Piney Woods. Full of birds, butterflies, wild animal tracks, lizards and more!

This was well worth the time to look at the native plants and trees. We did this in the morning on the way out of town and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Upon arriving at the Plant Center, we saw a blue bird and cedar waxwings. This is a really nice place to stroll through. Our stop was limited as we were pressed to move on to another destination. There was ample parking and an easy walk to the Center. Wish we could have spent more time as we heard lots of birds.

Visited for the Bird Days festivities Feb 2017. A great place for a leisurely stroll or a birding jaunt, with a well constructed marsh boardwalk.

Excellent winding walkways through wooded areas and swamp areas. Don't visit on a 96 degree day. Also, mind the woodland walks to make sure you know where you are going. There are signs showing names of plants and the work being done to bring back the native plants in our area.

Having lived in two different locations in Texas (and being from the East Coast) I really missed tall trees. Well the Piney Woods is full of tall trees and some of the sweetest smelling flowering shrubs I have ever smelled. This area is on the North side of SFA University and is a good place to start your creekside walk down the Lanana Creek Trail.

We were looking for a place to hike before heading on another 3 hour car ride. We found this place on Trip Advisor. It is a beautiful place with wonderful views. We picked up a few geocaches along the way. Strongly recommend that you visit this location for a breath of fresh air.
