We pulled up at this house in the middle of a heavy rain, and ran in as quickly as possible. The place is run by one person, and there is a door bell to ring for admission. Once inside, it can easily be seen that the house began as a 'dog-trot' cabin, and was enhanced over the decades into quite... More

... at least an hour here if you have an interest in Texas history. The core of the building is original 1830 construction. We particularly enjoyed seeing the original native pine flooring still in use in parts of the house and looking barely worn. That's in spite of the fact that the house was used as a residence by the... More

Stopped by during our visit to Nacogdoches. Has a personal tour (admission and tour are free; donations requested. The staff member on duty was very very knowledgable and provided an excellent tour. Don't plan on spending a lot to time here... you can see it in 30-45 minutes. Worth a stop if you have an interest in history of the... More

This was not opened on Sunday, but decided to drive by and see the outside. I'm sure there is a lot of history here. Sam Houston and Davy Crockett both visited and stayed all night in this house.

What a beautiful old house! It made Sam Houston's home in Huntsville look like a backwoods cabin. The woman who was the tour guide readily answered all our questions. Don't be put off by the "ring the bell for entry" sign; it's well worth the stop.

If you love history and if you love antiques then this is the place for you. History galore bursts out of every crack in this old home. It is the oldest home in Nacogdoches and the preservation done on this place is truly awesome. It has been very welled cared for. To view it is absolutely free, donations if you... More
