- AlTravelerSatellite Beach, Florida306 contributionsA Great Experience, Especially If You Have Never Been in Water-filled CaveTake the 1, 3, 10, or 11 bus from the Cruise dock at the Naval Shipyards. We were truly impressed. You go down into the cave for about 80 steps. It was an amazing place to visit. The guide was really good, and we enjoyed the experience. A very inexpensive trip and tour compared to the prices the cruise ships charge. It really looks like the picture.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- thebestjourneyyetEdinburgh, United Kingdom599 contributionsStunning caves worth the visit! These caves truly are stunning! Millions of years old and discovered accidentally by two teenage boys in 1907 who lost their cricket ball down a sink hole! The azure colours in the caves are just gorgeous and our guide was informative. Sadly we didn’t manage to see Fantasy Cave as it was flooded but a good tour of Crystal Cave. I’ve given this a 5 rating as it really is a stunning natural wonder worth visiting. For me personally though the tour (53 minutes long) could have been much much shorter! Seemed to be a lot of padding in the chat!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 22 October 2023
- AustintoBostonBoston, Massachusetts402 contributionsInteresting and UniqueDecided to come here one day to shake up our beach routine. Took the bus from Hamilton and it was an easy ride. The caves are really unique and the guide did a great job of provided a geological and historic background. There are a number of steps involved in the descent, so not sure this would be well suited for those with limited physical ability. An easy walk to the Swizzle Inn for a drink and lunch afterwards.Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 January 2024
- sstaleyUpminster, United Kingdom962 contributionsWell spent day - caving adventureAnother must-visit in Bermuda is Crystal Cave. We lucked out with a private tour, having paid general admission as there were no other visitors. The cave's beauty left me amazed — the intricate stalagmites, formations, and crystal-clear water were truly incredible. The friendly team, especially the knowledgeable guide, shared fascinating details about the cave's history. I was captivated by the story of the two young boys who discovered the cave while playing, but I won't give away the rest to keep the surprise for everyone! For easy access, take bus routes 1, 3, 10, or 11 to the City of Hamilton, disembark at the Crystal Caves bus stop, and consider a visit to Swissle Inn, home of the national drink, rum swizzle. Note: The Fantasy Cave was closed when we were there. We were the second to the last guest before closing timeVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 February 2024

- makeham9848 contributionsInteresting but I wouldn't pay for an excursion hereCrystal Cave really does look just like the photo. It's really not very big, maybe the size of a football field. You enter and go down a ramp to stairs, then the tour is a floating bridge. It ends there; you turn around and come back. If you have a good guide, they'll explain a lot about the history of the site, which makes it worthwhile. I did this on my own, was not going to pay excursion prices. Two bus tokens each way plus admission (one cave) came to about $45, and you can walk around Hamilton waiting for the ferry back to the dockyard. Bus drivers are good about dropping you off if you let them know when you board. The surrounding grounds are nice, massive banyan tree, plus the usual chickens roaming around and some goats. Swizzle Inn is by the bus stop so why not? There's also Bailey's ice cream which was closed. Only downside was a snippy employee working the ticket office who seemed quite put off by walk-ups, he seemed to be too occupied to deal with the hoi polloi. March 21 around 11am if someone from there reads this.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 March 2024
- StevenLee13Dartmouth, Massachusetts124 contributionsCool PlaceAn interesting place to visit. We visited both the Crystal and Fantasy Cave, they are very different from each other. We suggest you visit both. We had two different guides for each tour and both young men were friendly and knowledgeable. You'll have to go down ( and back up) 70 or 80 stairs to reach the caves so make sure you are fit to do so. The tours are fairly short, only about 30 min each so you won't need a lot of time there. Baily's Ice Cream and the Swizzle Inn ( famous for it's Rum Swizzles) are very close by if you want to extend your trip in that area.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 April 2024

Did not reserve (low season) and waited 20 minutes for the tour. The cave is amazing and I recommend it. But the experience of buying tickets was awful and I’m still not sure what was going on. We arrived and waited in a line that did not move. A family waiting in front of us gave up and left. Tour groups from cruises were skipping the line. There was also a woman who offered skip-the-line bracelets to people who'd come from the St George's cruise ship tender. Suddenly everyone was on that boat (they did not ask for proof). We had taken public transit (ferry and bus) because we knew there was only one tender back to the dockyard Sunday and we wanted to make sure we had time. It would have been nice to know we could have skipped the line if we took the tender. When we explained we were on the same ship and would love to take the St George boat back now that we know it's possible, the wristbands were gone.
After an hour everyone felt like we were getting heatstroke. We inquired upfront, and were told that the line's not moving because tours were sold out for the next two hours. We asked if we could buy tickets for a tour in two hours and go to a nearby restaurant (The Swizzle Inn - also a tourist attraction) to pass the time. We did and it was PERFECT. Why weren’t they telling people in the long, hot line that we could do this? I am so glad we asked so we did not waste another hour and we got to see another local attraction.

The Crystal caves were fantastic to see. The guide was very informative and explained how the caves were discovered by two young boys. It is amazing to see as your are led down and onto a floating walkway above crystal clear water. The guide shows how completely black it is when the lights are turned out.
We were taken to this site by a mini bus driver from the cruise port. He charged $5 more than the daily travel ticket ($19), but he was well worth it as he also took us to Hamilton for a visit and then to the lighthouse. He was very informative on the journey and seemed to know everyone on the island! His name is Llew Carter and he drove a black mini bus from the port. I would highly recommend him and his tour.

Lovely experience! I recommend calling a few days ahead or emailing to get the reservation time you want ( schedule not posted online) if you do the combo ticket for both caves. We went May 2022 took a taxi here from Hamilton Princess Hotel took about 20 mins to get there and I had a reservation for the 10am tour we were done in about 20 mins or so with Crystal Cave. Then the Fantasy Cave was next and it was beautiful as well. I wore water shoes, but athletic shoes, or sandals with grips/ non flip flops are recommended due to the stairs and they are steep and they may sweat a bit making them a little slick. They have small lockers, restrooms, gift shop on on the grounds by ticket booth. After tour was over we went to Swizzle Inn, ( its across the street ) then walked about 6 mins down the hill to Blue Hole Park, then caught a taxi back to Hamilton Princess. Amazing to see..

We arrived about 10.45am and had to wait over an hour as had not pre-booked tickets (although the woman in front of me had and they had lost her booking) so we only decided to see the Crystal Cave to avoid waiting even longer. The cave and the story of it discovery was interesting, but the cave was very small and $24 entry fee seemed expensive ($35 to see both caves) compared to Harrison’s Caves in Barbados ($15) or Wookey Hole in the UK($24) which are both huge and absolutely amazing. Very close to Baileys Ice Cream parlour and Tom Moores Jungle which are both worth a visit.

The Crystal Cave is by no means the largest or most spectacular cave we have visited, though it probably is the most expensive. That said, everything in Bermuda is horribly expensive and the cave really is pretty. It’s particularly nice to walk over a floating boardwalk down in the cave, which gives a great perspective.
There were around 20 people in the group (you can’t visit unless in a group with a guide) and it lasted about 30 minutes.
Sorry to say but we found the guide to be really annoying (verging on rude) which was a distraction from the beauty of the place. Nice to visit once, but wouldn’t rush back.

This was a great excursion!. We cruised with NCL. Right at the dock the cruise line provided a complimentary ferry shuttle service to St George where the caves are located. Once we arrived at St George a lovely woman who worked on the ferry to provide schedules of local attractions helped us get a taxi that could accommodate 6 of us. My husband is tall and our 3 children are very tall as well so getting a large enough taxi I thought might present a challenge but it worked out well. The taxi driver was friendly and gave us a ton of information on the area ( caves, zoo, aquarium, lunch and ice cream spots and a street festival happening every Wednesday evening throughout the summer). The taxi was $20.
We didn't have a reservation so I was apprehensive wondering if we'd get in or have a long wait. We arrived at 12:30. We scheduled to see both tours at 1:20. This gave us time to use the bathroom, explore the gift shop and get settled. The gift shop had air conditioning and it was a very hot day so many visitors found themselves window shopping.
The 1st tour was absolutely awesome but if you are claustrophobic or have physical limitations it might not be a good fit.
Underground was absolutely stunning! It was more like a guided museum tour with an experienced young man. He was polite and very knowledgeable. He shared the history of the findings, details on the limestone, how the caves have evolved since their known discovery. The 2nd cave tour was different (very steep stairs, more humid) but very interesting and so beautiful!
After the tours, we ate a delicious lunch right there on the grounds. The fresh fish Bermudian style sandwich with raisin bread and Cole slaw was delicious! Homemade ice cream at a nearby family owned creamery was a special treat.
Definitely visit the caves! But consider it a museum visit that will last 90 minutes at most for both caves. No swimming allowed. There are nearby beaches to visit for swimming. Wear sneakers, the underground caves are very slippery in sandals.
Enjoy!

Booked as part of Regent cruise line excursions. Had a mini bus carried 6 passengers and the driver who provided comprehensive narrative to and from the caves.
The caves themselves were spectacular and had some of the best lighting and walkways in any of the many caves we have toured. The guide was knowledgeable and imparted much of the history of the caves including who/how they were discovered, how they were formed and other information which kept the tour interesting. Got some spectacular photos as well.
Worth every penny!

Shortly past the aquarium and next to the homemade ice cream and 'famous' Swizzle Inn are the Crystal and Fantasy Caves. Many tourists walk from the caves to have ice cream or Bermuda's signature Swizzle cocktail. The caves are about 30+ minutes from Hamilton. While we have been on other spelunking expeditions in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the incredible tram cave-voyage in Barbados, Crystal Caves have something that the others do not - ocean waters that ebb and flow with the tides so that the water has a bluish hue and the pontooned walkways move up and down with the tides. The lighting in the cave only accentuates the bright blue water against the light white and yellow stalactites.. Very dramatic compared to earthen bottoms. The 30-minute tour was well worth the entrance fee. We did not do the Fantasy Cave and can't comment. There is a nice souvenir shop there as well.

My family and I have visited a number of these types of caves (Howe caverns in NY, glow worm caves in NZ, lava tubes in HI, caves in national park in Taiwan). There are two caves located here, Crystal Caves and Fantasy Caves. The admission was $24 per person. We did not make reservations prior and bought tickets for the Fantasy Caves. There was a 35 minute wait until our tour. The actual cave probably spanned 200 yards and took about 5 to 7 minutes to fully take in. We did this excursion on a rainy day. With the cab rides that are needed to get there and back, it was definitely not worth the time or money. Totally underwhelming.

What’s the difference between the crystal caves and the fantasy caves?

How would we get there from St. George's area. Thanks.

Is the tour from a cruise excursion the same as coming directly to the caves for a tour? If not, what’s different. Trying to decide if my 5-yr old grandson would enjoy the tour during our cruise stop. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Written 26 January 2020
Really not sure if there’s a cruise connection but definitely an interesting stop if you are on a cruise and you have several hours during the day to experience Bermuda. We were staying at The Rosewood. Once you get there the whole experience is less than an hour. FYI...the cafe at the Cave is supposed to have one of the Best Fish Sandwiches on the island, according to the locals!

How much would Taxi cost from Naval Dockyard to the Crystal Cave cost? How about bus? Is there any other option other than the $19 pass?
Written 5 June 2018
I think a taxi would be over $50. We took a taxi from the airport to Pompano Beach on a Sunday and it was over $60. We took the ferry from dockyard to St Georges and a bus from St Georges to Crystal Caves. We purchased a $25 book of public transportation tickets.

Firstly, I apologize for the way you were treated by Viator, but w
hile it is unfortunate the you had a bad experience with Viator, Crystal & Fantasy Caves is not involved with the booking of tickets online either thruogh Tripadvisor or Viator and it is unfair to give Crystal & Fantasy Caves a poor rating based on your experience with Viator. I know personally as a fact that visitors who missed their excursion tour but managed to make it to the cave on their own and explained their situation to the staff at the cave,, were given complimentary tickets to tour the caves. It is our aim at the caves and in Bermuda in general to make sure all of our visitors enjoy their Bermuda experience. And I hope some day you can make it to Crystal & Fantasy Cave to see how beautiful it is.
