Entry was easy and although there is limmited parking we didnt battle. Biggest draw back is no drinking water on site so make sure you take water and refreshments. Coming through flat flat Texas suddenly you find yourself in this rugged little cluster of hills...More

Went out to Balcones Canyonlands looking for some Central Texas hiking that wasn't flat. It did not disappoint. While not a lot of miles the hiking was quite nice. The views were fabulous. I stared at the Doeskin Ranch section where I hiked about 3...More

We hiked all sections of the Balcones Canyonlands except for the main center- because oddly it is closed on SATURDAYS! What? so weird -the most popular day of the week and your main center is closed. Made no sense. Very disappointed. We did get to...More

Nice refuge in a state with VERY FEW such land set asides. Nice walking trails along meadows or into the "balcones." Make sure you determine which access point you want to visit. There are at least 4 different entrances, and each one is several miles...More

Nice quiet hike. The gal at the head quarters was great! Decided to do a few hikes. not a lot to see due to how tall all the trees are, but a nice cool excursion and get away.

Very peaceful. Saw 2 other people. Realized the night before we went that the birds I wanted to see had already migrated south. Nice hill country drive. Take 328 through the park instead of the main road.

I came to Austin for a wedding but wanted something to do the following day. I found the refuge close by. The trails are not too long but scenic, and the terrain is not difficult to navigate. I appreciate that they are also clearly marked....More
