We are a zoo family and we love to learn everything we can about different species of animals. The Ellen Trout Zoo is by far one of my favorites especially for it's size. We have had the fortune of getting a behind the scenes tour and really enjoyed what we saw. It is a zoo in true form, except for... More

The zoo has some interesting animals and the exibits are done so you fell up close and personal with the anumals, even when the thick glass is necessary for your safety, the exibits are good.Don't miss the Z&OO Railroad ride around the park too. Strange albino peacocks wonder the grounds freely as you follow the animal display paths, and make... More

The grounds was clean and easy to get around. It has been years since I had been to this zoo. It has grown and they have added so much. My grand daughters had so much fun. They enjoyed seeing all the peacocks running around. We arrived like an hour after they opened and it was just perfect no crowds. Looked... More

Took 3 five-year olds (triplets) to this little zoo when we were in town from Dallas for a long weekend last month. The wandering peacocks were amazing! Exhibits were well kept and we saw lots of activity. Not very crowded and it was a great day weather-wise. The train ride just outside the zoo was fun too! Very affordable side... More

Even on Spring Break, while it was extra busy, it didn't feel overcrowded. We were especially enchanted with the hippo display and the giraffes. They have lots of benches and covered sitting areas if you need to rest or cool off - and they are really well planned - so you can sit and still enjoy the animals! A little... More

We always have a great time at the zoo. We usually make a day of it the kids play on the playgrounds and we ride the train and of course the animals are a big hit.

Ellen Trout Zoo is fun for the entire family. Remember to wear your walking shoes though. With a couple parks located on the outside, a train that will ride you around the whole zoo, and newly built walk/bike path that crosses the lake, be ready to spend the day and don't forget to pack a picnic.

For the size and price, this place can't be beat! I paid $21 to take a family of five in, and the kids loved it! Not too big to get tired or the kids to get bored, and not too small to seem a waste of time.

The Ellen Trout Zoo is a rare find for animal lovers and a must for people passing through East Texas. I put this zoo up against the ones in Dallas and Houston. You can easily walk through the zoo in a little over an hour and the exhibits are top notch and here, you can actually see the animals up... More
