Pretty incredible this whole building was built to show giant Cy Twombly paintings. I'm actually not a fan of his work, but in this context I had an emotional reaction. Especially the rose paintings.. pretty powerful. You can do this museum across the street from the lovely Menil Collection in a half an hour, and it's worth seeing. Best part?... More

Look, I get that modern art is subjective, and some modern artists have created some truly unique works that have truly challenged the boundaries of self-expression. Cy Twombly is not one of those. He's not, and unlike many artists, this isn't open to debate. Creating nothing but scribbles on a wall that looks like you let children loose in the... More

I was only familiar with Twombly's 50 Days at Ilium located in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. So very glad I had a chance to view more of his work. Twombly is an artist who has to grow on you. I did not appreciate the Philadelphia piece until I had seen it at least five times, but it was so... More

I'm a big fan of much modern art (Anselm Kiefer is a particular favorite of mine), but Twombly's works did not do much for me. Plus the museum guards were really annoying. They were highly suspicious of our children and watched us like hawks the entire time we were there. It is hard to take in the aura and spirit... More

Opposite the Menil Collection and the Rothko chapel, it's easy for this gallery to be over-looked. I've never been a great fan of Twombly, but this small gallery has transformed the way I view him. Excellent.

Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg had a third artist friend / lover / etc - Cy Twombly. Houston has a museum devoted to his works - and volunteers eager to inform you about his place in mid 20th century art.

This building is entirely dedicated to the artwork of Cy Twombly. You may love his art, or you may hate it. If you struggle to appreciate the modern art, try focusing on the calm atmosphere of the exhibition space. Sit on the benches, and look at the colors that Twombly splashes on the larger-than-life canvases. One room holds seven canvases,... More

First, let me say how amusing is to continually find that people who obviously have no understanding of abstract expressionist (or really any) art ignorantly comment on this place and others, and about how some pieces "could have been made by young children". Sadly, these people have lost a basic understanding, a freedom from oppressive logic and originality of thought... More
