Been going here for years as has everyone else but it's still a favorite. Little down-on-the-heel but like anything you love for a long time, it's made the better for it. Wonderful throw-back feel to when theaters were grand, in the lower, large theater. Upstairs a bit cramped in the plainer, smaller theaters but it doesn't matter. The bar upstairs... More

River Oaks is the best place for Independent and foreign films in town. I remember it when it used to show two movies a day with features changing every day or two. The theatre has been here for almost 80 years and it is still a great venue. I hope it survives for a long time.

The River Oaks Theatre is an older and quaint establishment, but offers a broader array of concessions for adults including a bar. The movies are usually more international and have a unique flair to them. They have two smaller theatres upstairs and a larger one downstairs. It is a fun date night!!!

This is a pretty art-deco style movie theater that shows foreign and arthouse-type films. It was nice that the no-smoking announcement was oral instead of recorded and the seats were comfortable. You can buy alcohol and much more at the theater, but it's not one with tables for eating. Also, beware that there were only 3 stalls in the bathroom... More

So glad it's advocates refused to see it shut down a few years back. I always enjoy seeing a film at River Oaks, and frequently take out of towners there for the hipster factor. We saw Cafe Society, the only place in town showing it - and it was really entertaining!

I encourage the support of vintage movie theaters However the seating is disappointing because if someone sits in front of you, you can't see! The gradient of the seating is not up to date with the regular theaters. Sound is okay. Does have interesting movies and alcohol from their counter is permitted

I love that the building is a period place, reflecting the time it was built. And I love small, intimate theaters. I was surprised to see so much in disrepair, though. Tiles falling off the wall or ceiling. The paint on the door to the bathroom was heavily chipped and worn. The bathrooms themselves were dingy. The seating in the... More

We have been to this theatre many times. We love the old time movie theatre atmosphere and the fabulous selection of indie films. The staff is courteous and helpful, the seats are comfortable and we enjoy having a glass of wine or a beer with our movie. Beautiful decor, a local treasure.

What a quaint theatre. Read the Yelp reviews to decide where we wanted to see a movie and this was definitely a good choice. The theatre we were in is the Main theatre so it was very roomy for a Saturday matinee. We were able to get a glass of wine also which was quite nice. A much different crowd... More

No, it doesn't have the comfortable stadium seating and high tech surround sound system of the corporate cookie-cutter multi-plex theaters in the suburbs. But, it also DOES NOT present mindless films watched by patrons with no character or taste. You see, The Landmark River Oaks Theater is a CLASS ACT! It serves as a place where the more matured film... More
