Ended up here for a couple of beers. Barman complained after my paying for the 2nd round that i clearly didn't 'know how things work here' as I had not left him any tips so far. I hadn't actually 'finished' at this point but then...More

Loved the look and feel of this old bar; the most ancient in modern Houston. 16 food ceilings downstairs and a long bar with interesting people perched there. Bartender uses a real brass cash register from the late 1800s to log your sale and make...More

Oldest building in Houston and it’s a bar. Go figure. Cute little place for drinks. Cozy but very dark inside. Reasonably priced and friendly service. Great rest stop when visiting downtown.

Cool, semi hip, dark beer and wine scene. Lots of locals. Dark. Could be a great get away from the office around 3:00 pm to get out of work. Order at the bar. Cash only. Beer and wine only. Check the vintage cash register that...More

Place was beautiful and magical straight to the minute when the waiter advised us that this is not Europe and we are in America and we have to tip him before we even taken the money out, which put me right off. It was rude...More

La Carafe is the first place I went to when I moved to Houston from Austin. I found it on a google search and the whole haunted wine bar story intrigued me, so I went to check it out. This is a really cool place...More

Love the ambience, old-school cash register and fantastic jukebox. Proof that sometimes new isn't better.

I have been going to this place for 30 years. It is small and lit by candles, the juke box plays music from 50's, 60's and 70's. This place is cash only. Only one table seats more than 2 people and the bathrooms are horrible....More

This is a little hole-in-the-wall historic wine bar that came highly recommended by some friends that live in Houston. If you are looking for a quiet and dark place to hang out with one or two people, you may enjoy coming here. There is a...More
