I visited today. Just be careful the roads leading to the house are very narrow. A very interesting house. The staff are very informative. The kids loved the dress up area. The grounds are very nice. Free car park but it's not very big

If you're interested in the Eminent Victorians, no more delightful visit can be imagined than to Down House. It is a sweet house, with an EXCELLENT audio guide, which I strongly suggest you use. There is a lift between floors to help those, like me,...More

This is a very interesting house to visit. Owned by English Heritage. The story of Charles Darwin is well presented with personal artefacts showing the great man’s life. The gardens are reasonably large and worth looking around. The car park is not large. I had...More

Definitely useful having a satnav to find this hidden treasure. Not well signposted on the actual road but then Darwin wa a man so happy with his family and nature. Downstairs are situated the entrance/exit shop, the main reception rooms, including a beautiful dining room,...More

A very intreresting visit and an insight into the life of the great man. This showed him as a husband and father and a very human side. The gardens are lovely and the whole place is very peaceful and homely.

My Family have visited here a number of times and always manage to learn something new. The gardens and surrounding countryside are great to explore as well.

This is really well laid out and overseen by English Heritage. It is worth buying the pass here if you are travelling, it really does save heaps. The gardens are immaculate and the volunteers are more than happy to have a discussion with you and...More

Lots of parking, but the road up from town is narrow and trees hang. Can easily park in town and walk the quarter mile, but no sidewalk for most of the trip.
