Wonderful way to get to Galveston. Good views of the Bay. Ferry was stable and safe. Long lines getting on. Could have been managed better.

Everyone needs to do this once! The ferry was free which surprised me since we are always paying to drive on highways in DFW!

For a really cheap excursion (free) drive down to the bolivar ferry launch, park in the free lot and walk on to the ferry. It will make a round trip across the bay to Bolivar (about an hour). You will see the Coast Guard Station,...More

We loved this ferry ride! Gorgeous day, warm breeze, dolphins dancing in the water. Doesn't get any better than that! Only downside is the ride is too short. Was wishing it could be about an hour! So we whipped right around and went back across...More

We used this ferry to move from Galveston to Port Bolivar. Just 5 minutes leaving Galveston we saw some Dolphins swimming not far from the ferry and also 3 kinds of pelicans, black cormorant, gulls, heron and some others. It's really fun.

great fun free side trip to Bolivar Island and back. This was an unexpected surprise on our visit. We did this twice, once in our car and once on foot. Must do!

Don’t drive around! It’s way longer. Drive your car onto the ferry. The ride is not that long. About 20 minutes. As a bonus, you can usually see dolphins during the trip. As others have said, the wait time to board the... More

The lighthouse is closed to the public, and to walk to the fort, in the summer heat, well ... I don't advise it.

Hwy 124 comes out of Beaumont towards the Bolivar peninsula, so that may be the way to go for someone coming from south LA from Hwy 10 to 124
