The street is nice for a quick visit. If you need some touristy stuff this is definitely where to get it. Noticed a few decent looking restaurants but didn't eat.

I have been to beaches all around the world and Galveston has been the most disappointing. The shops and restaurants are not great. There is no white sand and normally you will find lots of seaweed in the water and on the beach.
It was a typical tourist street, many shops and most of them sold food too; that was unusual. There are many restaurants interspersed between shops. Better things to do in Galveston.
