Amazingly, I stumbled across this iconic log cabin in 1980 on my first visit to Dallas, and never forgot it.
Now, 43 years later I stumbled across it again whilst waiting for a JFK Tour.
Exactly as I remembered it, really stands out amongst all the modern buildings, but in a good way, showing how hard it must have been in those early pioneer days.
Whilst it's a replica of the original, it still oozes historical value. I liked it in 1980, and liked it now.

It was just there, in the open, and I stumbled on it while walking around the historic area of Dallas. If you are reading this, now you know: don't miss it.

A great piece of history. You will not learn much but it was nice to see. I read the plaque and viewed the cabin while waiting for my tour guide to show for the JFK tour.

The city of Dallas is to be congratulated for keeping it restored and on Founder's Plaza as a remembrance from whence Dallas came.

Close to the JFK Memorial this single historic pioneers log cabin is a nice surprise. Gives you an idea of the pioneer lifestyle. Definitely worth a quick visit.

John Neely was a settler from Tennessee. He arrived in Dallas in 1841, and built this cabin in 1842. The cabin was built of cedar logs, and was really tiny.
It is a nice surprise to see this cabin just across JFJ Monument.

Real cool cabin depicting how was life in the old times, when Dallas was founded. You can get the idea of how far we've come, and how some other things remain the same. Nice reminder of our history.

Spend a few minutes walking through this plaza that contains an authentic log cabin that explains the early colonization days of Texas and the Dallas area. So interesting!

I found this cabin near the JFK memorial, going to the 6th floor Museum. I'm glad it was preserved. You have just the opportunity to read about it and make a couple of photos and the visit is done.

The John Neely Bryan Cabin is a replica cabin located in Founders Park, less than 1/4 mile from the original site on Bryan's bluff or as we now know it as Dealey's plaza. The original was destroyed in a flood in the late 1800's. It almost seems out of place surrounded by the tall buildings. With his founding of Dallas in 1841, Bryan was such an important figure as a storeowner, ferry operator, postmaster and his home even served as a courthouse in the early days. It is a shame that he isn't more celebrated, particularly since relatives of ours moved here over a year ago and had no idea who he was or that his cabin existed. Maybe the cabin will be open on our next visit.
