The largest zoological experience in Texas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo offers...

The largest zoological experience in Texas, the 106-acre Dallas Zoo offers fun, educational and entertaining experiences for the whole family. The Zoo's mission is to inspire a passion for nature and conserve wildlife, and guests can see a number of endangered species and learn about a variety of conservation projects the Dallas Zoo supports. Opened in 2010, our award-winning Giants of the Savanna habitat is internationally known. The savanna features elephants, ostrich, zebras, impalas, giraffes, and guineafowl, often mingling together. The Dallas Zoo is home to a herd of five female elephants and 11 giraffes, which guests can feed by hand. Guests will see the fastest land mammal on Earth, the cheetah, as well as African lions who often spend their days sleeping just inches away from the viewing wall inside the Serengeti Grill restaurant. The Wilds of Africa area features rare animals such as gorillas, chimpanzees and okapi. Guests will enjoy getting eye-to-eye with African penguins as they swim effortlessly underwater. Highlights of the ZooNorth section include the Lacerte Family Children's Zoo, a top-rated reptile and amphibian complex featuring albino alligators, and the Koala Walkabout, featuring the only koalas in Texas, red kangaroo, wallabies, and a lorikeet feeding area for up-close adventures. For alternative transportation to the Dallas Zoo, consider the DART Red Line, which delivers guests to the Zoo's front entrance.

Our grand daughters (1yrs and 3yrs) love the zoo; so we go several times a year. The Dallas Zoo is clean and well managed. Coordinate your schedule so you can view the elephants and giraffs being fed. There is a lot of shade but be sure to take a hat, sunglasses, sun-screen.

What we liked the most of this zoo was certainly the layout and how the trails was set up. Plenty of shade and short walking distances is very convenient. We did not have parking problems and there was not too many people, even considering it was beautiful Saturday. It is pretty limited on animals I think. There's the usual elephants... More

We bought a membership last March and have visited about 8 times in the last year. This particular day they had transitioned from a robotic Dinosaur exhibit to Nature Connects with Lego Bricks zoo sculptures. Incredible display of giant critters and things from nature and the humans in and around it made entirely of Legos! Our 3 kids 5 and... More

We enjoyed our trip to the Dallas Zoo. The kids (boys 7 & 9) enjoyed all of the interactive experiences offered. Feeding the giraffes was especially fun. There are a number of bird encounter experiences as well as a schedule of animal education events throughout the day. We spent about 3 hours at the zoo and saw everything. There are... More

The Dallas Zoo isn't very big. However, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in character. The size is actually perfect for people with littles because you can actually make it through the entire zoo in one visit. There is a carousel and a train ride, and one of the best children's zoos I have ever... More

I've been meaning to leave this review, but I haven't been on Trip Advisor for awhile. Firstly- Let me start by saying that you need to put 'Giants of the Savanna' at the top of your list- check the zoo schedule and he there for the 'Lion Encounter' where they will bring out a lion, or lioness- and you will... You can get really close and pet the giraffes and when we were there the lions were taking a nap pressed right up on the glass wall in the cafe. Very cool. It was like you could reach out and touch them. Also, you can ride a camel here.

Hi, idmem348. Thanks for coming to see us, and for taking the time to write a review. Glad you got to see the lions up close. That's a fun place to have lunch with them, for sure. I hope you didn't miss part of the Zoo, since we're the biggest in Texas. :) And I wanted to add that we... More

We enjoyed taking the grandchildren tithe zoo and had a great time. This was my first visit so I had fresh eyes. The place is clean and well kept. There were many activities to choose from. The troubling thing I noticed was that so many things cost additional $$$. Ride a pony- $$$. Ride the carousel- $$$. I thought that... More
